{"id":447529,"date":"2025-09-24T04:50:10","date_gmt":"2025-09-24T04:50:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/447529\/"},"modified":"2025-09-24T04:50:10","modified_gmt":"2025-09-24T04:50:10","slug":"guess-what-macron-phones-trump-after-us-presidents-motorcade-blocks-his-car-emmanuel-macron","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/447529\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Guess what?\u2019 Macron phones Trump after US president\u2019s motorcade blocks his car | Emmanuel Macron"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Emmanuel Macron had to walk half an hour by foot through New York after his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2025\/sep\/22\/arab-and-muslim-leaders-to-meet-trump-to-discuss-peace-plan-for-gaza\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">speech to the United Nations<\/a> on recognising Palestine as a state.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Video footage shows him getting out of his car to talk to police officers after they stop his vehicle to make way for the expected arrival of the motorcade of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/donaldtrump\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Donald Trump<\/a>, the US president.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The footage, which was captured by a reporter from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brut.media\/fr\/articles\/international\/etats-unis-canada\/emmanuel-macron-appelle-donald-trump-car-le-convoi-du-president-americain-le-bloque-dans-les-rues-de-new-york\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media outlet Brut,<\/a> appears to show the French president saying he needs to get to his country\u2019s consulate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cI\u2019m sorry, president, I\u2019m really sorry, everything has been frozen, there\u2019s a motorcade coming right now,\u201d an officer tells Macron.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The president then looks out over the empty street and replies: \u201cIf you don\u2019t see it, let me cross. I\u2019ll negotiate with you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Macron, who remains stuck behind a metal barrier, takes out his phone and appears to call Trump directly. Leaning on the barrier, he says, laughingly: \u201cHow are you? Guess what? I\u2019m waiting in the street because everything is frozen for you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Macron later appears to be allowed through on foot but not in his car. Still on his phone, he proceeds to stride off down the street, past shoppers and pedestrians. The reporter from Brut said Macron walked for about 30 minutes with his security detail.
