{"id":447873,"date":"2025-09-24T12:12:17","date_gmt":"2025-09-24T12:12:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/447873\/"},"modified":"2025-09-24T12:12:17","modified_gmt":"2025-09-24T12:12:17","slug":"how-much-greater-manchester-households-are-now-paying-to-rent-as-prices-continue-to-climb","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/447873\/","title":{"rendered":"How much Greater Manchester households are now paying to rent as prices continue to climb"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The up-to-date costs to rent a home across Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/0_GettyImages-1478692559-1.jpg\" loading=\"eager\"  \/> Tameside has seen the largest growth in rent prices over the last 12 months(Image: Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">Renting a <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/news\/property\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">property<\/a> is becoming even more expensive across<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/news\/greater-manchester-news\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"> Greater Manchester<\/a> as prices are continuing to rise.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">Average private rents in Manchester increased to \u00a31,317 per month in the last 12 months, according to the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">The increase works out at an extra 5.1 per cent a year that renters are now having to find, as a housing charity warns that soaring <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/renting\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">rents<\/a> could push people into homelessness.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">This comes as separate figures from the ONS showed that annual growth in employees\u2019 average earnings across the UK was 4.8 per cent, meaning wages are failing to keep up with rent rises.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">Sign up to our Manchester property newsletter <\/strong><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/newsletter-preference-centre\/?view=Solus&amp;mailingListId=bc20c6fc-2915-490b-ac8d-88931b38cffd&amp;utm_source=solusarticle\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">here<\/strong><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">Rents in Manchester have soared by nearly three-times as much in the last five years. The average cost of private rent in the city increased by \u00a3383 between August 2020 and 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">Elsewhere in our region, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/tameside\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Tameside<\/a> has seen the largest growth in rent prices over the last 12 months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">It now cost \u00a3885 a month on average to rent a home in the borough, which has gone up by 10.8 percent compared to a year ago, equivalent to an extra \u00a387 a month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">In comparison, the average private rent in the UK increased by \u00a373 a month to \u00a31,348 in the last 12 months, which works out at an extra 5.7 per cent.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/0_GettyImages-914814040.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Rent costs are continuing to climb across the UK(Image: Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">Ben Twomey, Chief Executive at Generation Rent, said: \u201cHomes are the foundations of our lives, but rents continue to rise faster than our wages, swallowing more and more of our income.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">&#8220;High rents push people into homelessness and trap them in temporary accommodation, they pull children into poverty and prevent people from saving for the future.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">\u201cWe rightly have caps on our energy and water bills, but the same protections don\u2019t exist to stop landlords from pricing us out of our homes. The government can and must act through devolving powers to Mayors to limit rent increases in their areas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\"
