According to the ambassador, this experience deeply influenced Macron\u2019s thinking.<\/p>\n<p>Macron said at the time that getting aid back into Gaza quickly is a \u201ctop priority,\u201d and that \u201cthe situation right now is unbearable,\u201d urging that humanitarian aid flow, which is blocked by Israel, must resume without delay.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI saw here, in Al-Arish, the direct consequences of this blockade: tons of aid blocked, Palestinian wounded waiting for care. Forced displacement is not an answer; it is a violation of human rights and international law,\u201d Macron <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lefigaro.fr\/international\/en-egypte-emmanuel-macron-denonce-une-situation-intenable-a-gaza-20250408\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">added<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Reflecting on his trip, Macron linked his Al-Arish observations to a renewed push for a two-state solution, explicitly rejecting displacement.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBack from a trip to Egypt, where I visited Al-Arish and saw the wounds inflicted on Gaza\u2019s civilians, I reaffirm that forced displacement is unacceptable. It is a blatant violation of international law and an obstacle to peace,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lefigaro.fr\/international\/conflit-au-proche-orient-emmanuel-macron-tente-de-ressusciter-la-solution-des-deux-etats-20250410\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">noted<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Three months after the visit, Macron <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/world\/france-will-recognize-palestine-as-a-state-president-macron-says\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a> that France would recognize Palestine as a state and that it would be formalized at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTrue to its historic commitment to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, I have decided that France will recognise the state of Palestine,\u201d Macron <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/emmanuelmacron\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;ig_rid=b8d1a983-3164-4ef9-b3eb-7ecde7d32d83\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The news <a href=\"https:\/\/www.france24.com\/en\/middle-east\/20250725-us-strongly-rejects-french-plan-to-recognise-palestine-saudis-hail-historic-decision\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sparked<\/a> anger in Israel and the United States, as US Secretary of State Marco Rubio <a href=\"https:\/\/www.france24.com\/en\/middle-east\/20250725-us-strongly-rejects-french-plan-to-recognise-palestine-saudis-hail-historic-decision\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">described<\/a> it as a \u2018reckless decision.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>France and Saudi Arabia also co-chaired a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=GEbfbYm7wlA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">meeting<\/a> at the UN on Monday to discuss ways to push forward the two-state solution, with Egypt also taking part. However, Macron\u2019s counterpart, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, did not attend the event.
