The extra-EU trade balance in high-tech products went from a deficit of \u20ac15 billion in 2023 to a surplus of \u20ac23 billion in 2024, after 4 consecutive trade deficit years.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\">More than half of the EU\u2019s high-tech imports in 2024 came from China (30%; \u20ac141 billion) and the United States (23%; \u20ac111 billion), with other top trading partners being Switzerland (6%; \u20ac31 billion) and Taiwan (6%; \u20ac26 billion), followed by Vietnam (5%; \u20ac24 billion) and the United Kingdom (4%; \u20ac21 billion).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\">Electronics-telecommunications accounted for the largest share of high-tech imports from non-EU countries (36%), for which China was the largest trading partner. China followed (10%; \u20ac49 billion), ahead of the United Kingdom (10%; \u20ac48 billion), Switzerland (6%; \u20ac29 billion), Japan and T\u00fcrkiye (each 3%; \u20ac15 billion and \u20ac14 billion, respectively).<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\">Pharmaceuticals made up the largest share (33%) of overall high-tech exports to non-EU countries, with the United States being the top trading partner.
