It was only that we were each holding the handrail tightly or, it would have been a disaster,\u201d Trump wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The incident was \u201cabsolutely sabotage\u201d, Trump said, pointing to an article published in The Sunday Times that said UN staff had previously joked about shutting off escalators to humiliate the US president.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe people that did it should be arrested!\u201d Trump wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Trump also claimed the sound system was \u201ccompletely off\u201d during his speech, and the audience \u201ccouldn\u2019t hear a thing\u201d unless they used the interpreters\u2019 earpieces.<\/p>\n<p>Mike Waltz, the US ambassador to the UN, echoed Trump\u2019s demand for an investigation, calling the incidents \u201cunacceptable\u201d and \u201csymptomatic of a broken institution that pose serious safety and security risks\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for the UN did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Trump\u2019s latest claims.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said the escalator malfunction had possibly been caused by a videographer in Trump\u2019s delegation accidentally triggering the emergency stop function.<\/p>\n<p>Another UN spokesperson, Farhan Aziz Haq, said the teleprompter belonged to Trump\u2019s team and referred inquiries to the White House.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"US president says Secret Service is investigating \u2018three very sinister events\u2019 at UN headquarters in New York.
