(Benjamin Roberts\/Bloomberg)<\/p>\n<p>\n September 25, 2025 3:51 PM, EDT<\/p>\n<p>[Stay on top of transportation news: <a href=\"https:\/\/influence.ttnews.com\/lp\/sitelink-newsletter-incontent\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Get TTNews in your inbox<\/a>.]<\/p>\n<p class=\"TX\">Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said the U.S. will investigate suppliers of crop inputs \u2014 such as seeds and fertilizers \u2014 for potential antitrust violations, sending share prices plunging.<\/p>\n<p class=\"TX\">The agriculture and justice departments have signed a memorandum of understanding to \u201ctake a hard look and scrutinize competitive conditions in the agriculture marketplace, including antitrust enforcement that promotes free market competition,\u201d Rollins said Sept. 25 during a conference in Missouri.<\/p>\n<p class=\"TX\">Shares of North American fertilizer producers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ttnews.com\/articles\/nutrien-new-cfo-earnings-q2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nutrien<\/a> and CF Industries Holdings slumped more than 3%, while Mosaic Co. fell as much as 4.8% before paring those declines. Corteva Inc., which supplies genetically modified seeds and pesticides, plunged as much as 5.3%.\n      \t    <\/p>\n<p class=\"TX\">Nutrien ranks No. 11 on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ttnews.com\/private-carriers\/rankings\/2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest private carriers<\/a> in North America and No. 2 among <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ttnews.com\/private-carriers\/agriculture\/2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">agriculture and food processors<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"TX\"><strong>RELATED:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ttnews.com\/articles\/trump-tariff-relief-farms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trump Says Tariff Revenue Will Fund Relief for Farmers<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"TX\">The costs of key inputs like fertilizers and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ttnews.com\/articles\/tractors-price-rise-tariffs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tractors<\/a> have been on the rise this year, partly because of President Donald Trump\u2019s tariffs. That has squeezed farmers at a time when they are also dealing with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ttnews.com\/articles\/cargill-fiscal-2025-revenue\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">low crop prices<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ttnews.com\/articles\/soybean-oil-prices-china\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">China\u2019s shift away from American soybeans<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"TX\">Rollins also cited concerns about \u201cundue foreign influence\u201d on the market, \u201cespecially given a significant portion of our fertilizer production is overseas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"TX\">The agriculture sector, which is highly concentrated, has drawn increased scrutiny over the past few years.
