{"id":451395,"date":"2025-09-25T22:28:13","date_gmt":"2025-09-25T22:28:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/451395\/"},"modified":"2025-09-25T22:28:13","modified_gmt":"2025-09-25T22:28:13","slug":"apple-wants-eu-to-rethink-digital-markets-act","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/451395\/","title":{"rendered":"Apple Wants EU To Rethink Digital Markets Act"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.apple.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Apple<\/a> is asking Europe\u2019s antitrust regulator to do away with its digital protection rule.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apple.com\/newsroom\/2025\/09\/the-digital-markets-acts-impacts-on-eu-users\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blog post<\/a> Thursday (Sept. 25), the tech giant asked the <a href=\"https:\/\/commission.europa.eu\/index_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">European Commission<\/a> (EC) to rethink its Digital Markets Act (DMA) a little more than a year after it was enacted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver that time, it\u2019s become clear that the DMA is leading to a worse experience for Apple users in the EU,\u201d Apple wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s exposing them to new risks, and disrupting the simple, seamless way their Apple products work together. And as new technologies come out, our European users\u2019 Apple products will only fall further behind.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The landmark DMA was designed to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/big-tech\/2022\/big-tech-blasts-eus-landmark-digital-markets-act\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">combat market abuse<\/a> by tech giants operating within the European Union, and covers these companies\u2019 operating systems, app stores and platforms. The law lets regulators levy fines totaling up to 10% of a company\u2019s annual worldwide revenue, or 20% in the case of repeat offenders.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The EC fined Apple <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/news\/regulation\/2025\/apple-fights-580-million-app-store-fine-in-europe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$580 million<\/a> in April, saying the company had violated rules for allowing developers to direct users to purchases outside of app stores.
