DICKINSON, N.D. (KFYR) – Dickinson State University is celebrating 100 years of football this season.<\/p>\n
That celebration includes a new children\u2019s book.<\/p>\n
\u201cAn Alphabet Book for Little Blue Hawks\u201d has something for Blue Hawk fans of all ages.<\/p>\n
This is Brannigan and Jett\u2019s new favorite book. \u201cAn Alphabet Book for Little Blue Hawks\u201d is 30 pages about their favorite football team. Their dad works at Dickinson State, so they go to a lot of games, but this book has made those games a little more fun.<\/p>\n
Longtime DSU professor Debora Dragseth wrote the book.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis one is so close to my heart,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Dickinson artist Sara Worner did the illustrations.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis was a first for me,\u201d said Worner.<\/p>\n
There are surprises hidden throughout, including 10 Coca-Cola logos.<\/p>\n
\u201cCoca-Cola is a sponsor, so it\u2019s a little bit of a \u2018find the logos\u2019 which I think will make it fun for kids,\u201d said Dragseth.<\/p>\n
The book is also educational, giving readers a lesson about football and about the history of DSU football.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe sprinkled in some records,\u201d said Dragseth. \u201cFor example, the person with the longest field goal attempt.\u201d<\/p>\n
Both women their favorite page is the letter G, for game day.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s just colorful. There\u2019s a sunset and everybody\u2019s having a good time,\u201d explained Worner.<\/p>\n
Worner hand-painted each one of these illustrations on a canvas.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen you look at them in the book, you can see the texture. I think that makes it more authentic and unique,\u201d said Worner.<\/p>\n
All of which they hope will make this book a collectible and a piece of Blue Hawk history that fans of all ages will enjoy.<\/p>\n
