{"id":453438,"date":"2025-09-26T18:44:12","date_gmt":"2025-09-26T18:44:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/453438\/"},"modified":"2025-09-26T18:44:12","modified_gmt":"2025-09-26T18:44:12","slug":"drought-update-issued-in-wales-and-it-will-take-many-months-to-recover","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/453438\/","title":{"rendered":"Drought update issued in Wales and it will take &#8216;many months to recover&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Drought has been an ongoing problem up and down the country since May<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/0_Low-Water-Levels-In-Welsh-Reservoirs-After-Record-Dry-Spell.jpg\" alt=\"an aerial view of a two-arched stone bridge believed to date back to 1800 which has been exposed due to low water levels at the Llwyn-on reservoir in the Taf Fawr valley \" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Parts of the country, saw extremely low water levels in May(Image: Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"walesonline\">Parts of Wales affected by drought this summer are now showing early signs of recovery following significant rainfall throughout September, although full restoration may still take several months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"walesonline\">The scorching summer <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/wales-weather\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">weather<\/a>, which <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/news\/wales-news\/drought-declared-across-more-areas-32375680\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">caused streams to dry up and led to reports of &#8220;fish in distress&#8221; and other environmental impacts<\/a>, prompted Natural Resources Wales to declare drought conditions in affected areas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"walesonline\">Drought was officially declared in south-east Wales on August 14, 2025, followed by north Wales on August 29. Meanwhile, south-west Wales, which had been under prolonged dry weather status since May, has now transitioned into a phase of recovery from the extended dry conditions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"walesonline\">Rainfall data collected by Natural Resources Wales (NRW), shows a strong shift in conditions, with totals ranging from 102% of the long-term average in Bethesda (north <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/gwynedd\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Gwynedd<\/a>) to 212% in Sarn, in the upper Severn catchment, as of September, 22.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"walesonline\">River flows have responded positively overall, with most now considered normal or above normal for this time of year. However, NRW noted that some rivers remain &#8220;below&#8221; expected levels, showing a slower rate of recovery from the summer&#8217;s drought.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"walesonline\">Groundwater reserves remain a key concern, with some still described as &#8220;exceptionally low&#8221; for the season.
