Despite numerous rumors linking Bayer Leverkusen superstar Florian Wirtz to Bayern Munich<\/a>, Manchester City<\/a> could be surging ahead in the pursuit. <\/p>\n

Why, though?<\/p>\n

Well, City manager Pep Guardiola appears to be winning over Wirtz with the plan he is presenting to the Germany international per kicker (via @iMiaSanMia<\/a>). Surely, the deep pockets of Manchester City are not hurting the club\u2019s chances, either: <\/p>\n

Bayern are not Florian Wirtz\u2019s top priority should he decide to leave Bayer Leverkusen. The player is rather impressed by Pep Guardiola\u2019s attempts to bring him to Manchester City. A potential Xabi Alonso move to Real Madrid<\/a> could also influence Wirtz\u2019s decision. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

While Bayern Munich might seem like the logical next step for Wirtz, there are some logistical issues. First, Wirtz and Jamal Musiala play the same position and there is a thought that head coach Vincent Kompany might not be able to be as flexible as German national team coach Julian Nagelsmann with positions. Second, Manchester City offers the bigger platform for Wirtz to build a reputation that could result in better odds for Wirtz to win the Ballon d\u2019Or. It is key to note that Wirtz would also not have to share the spotlight (or attacking midfielder position) with Musiala. Granted, Wirtz could have to split votes with Erling Haaland at Manchester City, much like he would at Bayern Munich with Musiala. <\/p>\n

Finally, Manchester City could just be a better bet to win the Champions League<\/a> for the next five seasons than Bayern Munich given their deep roster, deep pockets, and Guardiola\u2019s allure to top talents worldwide. <\/p>\n

All of that does matter. <\/p>\n

Oh, and the last time Bayern Munich was linked to a Bundesliga star and were felled by Guardiola\u2019s meddling was not all that long ago…remember that Haaland guy?<\/p>\n
