The US state department said on Friday it would revoke the visa of Colombian<\/a> leftist president Gustavo Petro for his \u201cincendiary actions\u201d during a pro-Palestinian street protest in New York.<\/p>\n

\u201cEarlier today, Colombian president @petrogustavo stood on a NYC street and urged US soldiers to disobey orders and incite violence,\u201d the state department said on X.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will revoke Petro\u2019s visa due to his reckless and incendiary actions.\u201d<\/p>\n

On his social media account, Petro<\/a> shared video of himself speaking Spanish to a large crowd through a megaphone on Friday, with his translator then relaying his comments calling on \u201cnations of the world\u201d to contribute soldiers for an army \u201clarger than that of the United States\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is why, from here in New York, I ask all soldiers in the United States army not to point their rifles at humanity. Disobey Trump\u2019s order! Obey the order of humanity!\u201d Petro said.<\/p>\n

Colombian media reported Petro was already en route to Bogota from New York on Friday night.<\/p>\n

Petro was in New York for the UN general assembly, where he rebuked the Trump administration<\/a> fiercely and called for a criminal inquiry into recent US strikes on alleged drug trafficking boats in the Caribbean in his Tuesday address.<\/p>\n

Petro said unarmed \u201cpoor young people\u201d died in the strikes <\/a>\u2013 more than a dozen in total \u2013 but Washington contends the actions are part of a US anti-drug operation off the coast of Venezuela, whose president Washington accuses of running a cartel.<\/p>\n

Trump has dispatched eight warships and a submarine to the southern Caribbean, and the biggest US deployment in years has raised fears in Venezuela<\/a> of an invasion.<\/p>\n

Petro, whose country is the world\u2019s biggest cocaine producer, has said he suspects some of those killed in the US boat strikes were Colombian.<\/p>\n

Last week, the Trump administration decertified Colombia as an ally in the fight against drugs, but stopped short of economic sanctions.<\/p>\n

The countries are historical allies but ties have soured under Petro, Colombia\u2019s first-ever leftist leader.<\/p>\n

Its interior minister, Armando Benedetti, wrote on X on Friday night that Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu\u2019s visa should have been revoked rather than Petro\u2019s.<\/p>\n
