Day 2 foursomes pairings confirmed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Europe take a strong lead into the second day of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/ryder-cup\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ryder Cup<\/a> after a superb start at Bethpage Black on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Luke Donald&#8217;s defending champions powered to a 3-1 win in the opening foursomes session before taking control of the afternoon four-balls matches, winning both sessions to build up a 5\u00bd-2\u00bd lead.<\/p>\n<p>Their clinical performance in the morning certainly quietened the home fans after much had been made of the hostile reception the New York crowd had in store for the visiting side.<\/p>\n<p>The arrival of President Donald Trump looked to give the hosts a lift, but world no1 Scottie Scheffler and US Open champion JJ Spaun were roundly beaten by John Rahm and Sepp Straka.
