Some 300,000 households stopped paying for a licence in the year ending March 2025.<\/p>\n<p>An insider said: \u201cThere\u2019s a direct link between flagship BBC shows like Strictly and licence fee retention. It\u2019s no accident that last week\u2019s launch show was surrounded by new trails by TV Licensing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s telling viewers to keep paying the licence fee because the BBC is delivering shows you want to watch. Her injury is a disaster because it strips Strictly of rare star power at a moment when the show can least afford it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Strictly\u2019s reputation for glitzy, wholesome escapism was tarnished by the <a class=\"post_in-line_link\" href=\"https:\/\/inews.co.uk\/news\/giovanni-pernice-strictly-come-dancing-3101805?srsltid=AfmBOoojOYMd81L39y0W9L3OjCEqR7kqpHGf3nybOxDQzwe2gEl9DoTv&amp;ico=in-line_link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bullying claims against 2023 professional dancer Giovanni Pernice<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A BBC inquiry upheld in part complaints of verbal bullying and harassment by former dance partner Amanda Abbington.<\/p>\n<p>Professional <a class=\"post_in-line_link\" href=\"https:\/\/inews.co.uk\/news\/graziano-di-prima-zara-mcdermott-strictly-training-3178253?srsltid=AfmBOoreKu4N4ibWhVO0f-BleYWkna3doEHLSgh95Q5hkKtDzX18xVdo&amp;ico=in-line_link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Graziano Di Prima also left in 2024<\/a> following allegations about his behaviour towards dance partners.<\/p>\n<p>The bad news kept coming, with former contestant <a class=\"post_in-line_link\" href=\"https:\/\/inews.co.uk\/culture\/television\/strictly-second-chance-wynne-evans-3507892?srsltid=AfmBOophOvLcsYKRvR8KigzPhpyYE_lYiDRJxsJik82gYummWtA5s_lC&amp;ico=in-line_link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wynne Evans <\/a>losing his BBC radio show over what he admitted were \u201cinappropriate and unacceptable\u201d comments about a female participant made during the Strictly live tour.  <\/p>\n<p>The BBC is still investigating two unnamed Strictly stars for alleged cocaine use during their time on the show. Meanwhile the police have arrested an unnamed Strictly figure on suspicion of rape. The individual is not involved in this year\u2019s series.<\/p>\n<p>Celebs steering clear of Strictly<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s line-up stretched the definition of \u201ccelebrity\u201d, claimed the talent agent, who is no longer recommending clients accept offers to appear. \u201cStrictly\u2019s brand is creaking under the weight of scandal. Dyer is the second contestant from the original line-up not to make it the first live show following the exit of Game of Thrones actor Kristian Nairn, who pulled out on medical grounds last month.<\/p>\n<p>A source said: \u201cEveryone I talk to on Strictly finds it rather silly how dramatic and over the top some of the press reporting is. It\u2019s become something of a running joke at the studios.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The person added: \u201cSo many of the things claimed to have thrown the show into \u2018chaos\u2019, \u2018crisis\u2019 or \u2018plunged Strictly into turmoil\u2019 are simply part of producing a big live entertainment show, which everyone on Strictly knows how to do.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe production team keep calm and carry on with making the programme \u2013 the only sense of chaos and crisis is in the overactive minds of the tabloids.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It would be foolish to write off Strictly just yet. Last year\u2019s final drew an impressive 10 million viewers. (Photo: BBC\/Guy Levy)<\/p>\n<p>But after 21 years as the BBC\u2019s frontline entertainment brand, Strictly may be losing ground to The Traitors within the corporation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCelebrity Traitors is the biggest show of the Autumn for the BBC,\u201d one staffer said. \u201cIt is scandal free and loved by everyone.
