{"id":45532,"date":"2025-04-24T03:14:08","date_gmt":"2025-04-24T03:14:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/45532\/"},"modified":"2025-04-24T03:14:08","modified_gmt":"2025-04-24T03:14:08","slug":"toto-wolff-gives-mercedes-update-amid-trump-tariff-experiment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/45532\/","title":{"rendered":"Toto Wolff gives Mercedes update amid Trump tariff &#8216;experiment&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The global economy is still trying to determine a path forward in light of US President Donald Trump\u2019s ever-changing tariff mandates \u2014 and Formula 1 is no exception.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>But according to Mercedes F1 team boss Toto Wolff, the team is currently insulated from the worst of the chaos.<\/p>\n<p>Mercedes boss labels Trump tariffs a \u2018socio-economic experiment\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Additional reporting by Thomas Maher<\/p>\n<p>Trying to keep tabs on the ongoing tariff situation created by U.S. President Donald Trump can be challenging, but one thing is certain: The global economy is on high alert.<\/p>\n<p>Since assuming his presidency in late January, Trump has implemented import tariffs on nearly every country in the world, only to renege on those tariffs, alter them, or suggest that they can be altered based on later discussions with the countries in question.<\/p>\n<p>Trying to make any big predictions about what could happen is challenging with so many changes, but many industries \u2014 including Formula 1 \u2014 are keeping tabs on the situation and steeling themselves for any potential issues.<\/p>\n<p>More Formula 1 analysis:<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udc49\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetf1.com\/features\/f1-uncovered-red-bull-rb21-innovation-saudi-arabian-gp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">F1 uncovered: New Red Bull RB21 trick emerges after Verstappen\u2019s Saudi GP pole<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udc49\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetf1.com\/features\/f1-2025-power-rankings-chinese-gp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">F1 2025 power rankings: Who are the best performers on this year\u2019s grid?<\/a><\/p>\n<p>One such person is Toto Wolff, team principal of the Mercedes F1 team.<\/p>\n<p>At the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, he was asked for his perspective on the potential tariffs, and how they could impact the world F1.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy background is in finance and that\u2019s why I\u2019m looking at this,\u201d Wolff said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat\u2019s happening, what\u2019s panning out in front of our eyes and on a global level, is almost like a socio-economic experiment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s quite entertaining to be reading CNN and then FOX News and try to figure out what\u2019s actually happening.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As far as the team\u2019s partners go, he said, \u201cYou clearly see a negative sentiment of some of our partners in the US because they don\u2019t know what it means for their business, how the tariffs and the geopolitical situation is going to impact their business going forward.<\/p>\n<p>It hasn\u2019t hit us yet. We have a group of great partners at Mercedes that stands 100% behind Formula 1.
