A person has tragically died following an incident at a takeaway shop.<\/p>\n

The incident is believed to have involved carbon monoxide and seven others, including emergency staff, were treated at the scene for the effects of inhaling the gas.<\/p>\n

Police were called to the scene on Cresswell Crescent in Bloxwich at around 9.40pm on Friday, September 26, following concerns for a man’s welfare.<\/p>\n

When they arrived, they found a man in his 50s who was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n

A number of people were then taken to hospital following exposure to the suspected carbon monoxide.<\/p>\n

Local residents were evacuated as a precaution and have since been allowed to return to their homes.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police<\/a> told BlackCountryLive: “We attended business premises in Cresswell Crescent, Bloxwich, at around 9.40pm yesterday (26 September) following concerns for the welfare of a man.<\/p>\n

“Other emergency services were also in attendance and a man in his 50s was sadly confirmed dead at the scene. Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this devastating time.<\/p>\n

“Seven other people – including emergency service workers – were treated at the scene for the suspected effects of carbon monoxide poisoning. Some were taken to hospital for further assessment.<\/p>\n

“A small number of nearby properties were temporarily evacuated but occupants have since been able to return.<\/p>\n

“We will work with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to help establish the full circumstances.”<\/p>\n

Cllr Michael Coulson shared on social media: “It is with great sadness that I have just been informed of a serious incident at a food takeaway shop at Mossley shops, in which someone has tragically died.<\/p>\n

“This evening the Fire Service were called out to attend an incident in which an injured person needed assistance.<\/p>\n

“Tragically, the Fire Service could not access the property due to a generator releasing a mixture of gases, which includes cyanide.<\/p>\n

“As a result of the toxic gases, all adjacent shops and flats above have been evacuated.<\/p>\n

“My thoughts are with the deceased and all affected by this awful tragedy.”<\/p>\n

One person commented: “They could enter and the ambulance, air ambulance and fireman worked tirelessly on the poor man who lost his life.<\/p>\n

“All our thoughts go to the family.”<\/p>\n
