Team Principal James Vowles is optimistic about Atlassian Williams Racing\u2019s hopes of success in 2026 \u2013 but is taking a balanced approach to expectations for next season.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s plenty of positivity around Williams at present, following Carlos Sainz\u2019s podium finish in Azerbaijan last time out.<\/p>\n

And with Alex Albon putting in 11 point-scoring performances across the season to date, there\u2019s little doubt that this has been a campaign to remember.<\/p>\n

There are still seven races to go, of course, but attention is already turning to next term, when new Formula 1 regulations are set to be introduced.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think what I\u2019ve said all the way along is [that there are] some positives and negatives for everyone to acknowledge,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m confident that we as Williams will step forward every year, going forward from here onwards.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s important to know \u2013 we\u2019re on a good pathway, we\u2019re investing in a good way.<\/p>\n

\u201c[However] There\u2019s a \u2018but\u2019. We still have a long way to go.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is one podium, and the giants out there are able to get on the podium every week and win races, and we have a long way to go before we\u2019re able to achieve that.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd in one year, we won\u2019t fix everything that we need to fix.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut my ask of you is to stay with us. I hope what everyone can see is we\u2019re on the right journey \u2013 trust the process.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere’s a lot of good things to come, but be by Williams\u2019 side when it happens.\u201d<\/p>\n

James also reflected on what Carlos\u2019 P3 placing meant to him and the team in his post-Baku assessment, saying:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s hard to express just what this result meant to the team, but safe to say it\u2019s a huge amount.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m proud of Carlos. It\u2019s not been the easiest of years, and yet he did an absolutely incredible job all weekend long to bring home, certainly the first podium for me whilst I\u2019ve been with Williams, and one that the team absolutely relished and celebrated.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m proud of Alex. He absolutely showed the sportsperson that he is when he came underneath the podium [and] immediately wanted to celebrate as part of the team.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt meant a huge amount to him, as it did to myself and to everyone else.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I\u2019m proud of the team. We have to recognise where we have come from, and where we are today isn\u2019t the end of our journey by any stretch of the imagination \u2013 it\u2019s the end of the beginning, in some regards.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I\u2019m proud of how we pulled together and fixed problems in Qualifying over the last 10 days or so.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow every single race, almost, we\u2019ve been building up towards getting better and better results \u2013 how we execute, how we work together, how we deliver.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s not one area that\u2019s the same as before. We\u2019ve been gently improving all of them, and I think [it was a] just reward [in Baku] \u2013 and an earned reward as well, it\u2019s important to say.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt wasn\u2019t a wet race, it wasn\u2019t a well-timed Safety Car. This was very much earned from start to finish.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat result means a huge amount to us.\u201d<\/p>\n
