\n\tAlthough Jennifer Kaytin Robinson<\/a>\u2018s I Know What You Did Last Summer<\/a> brings back some familiar faces, don\u2019t expect to see any reigning Croaker Queens.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe writer-director of the sequel, which premieres July 18 in theaters, recently admitted that she \u201ctried relentlessly\u201d to get her pal Sarah Michelle Gellar<\/a> to reprise her role as the doomed Helen Shivers from the 1997 slasher pic, but \u201cshe\u2019s dead.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI tried, okay? I harassed her! But she is dead,\u201d Robinson told Entertainment Weekly<\/a>. \u201cI tried to pitch some crazy s\u2014 too. I was like, \u2018What if it\u2019s like you weren\u2019t dead and you\u2019re actually alive, but in hiding?\u2019 And Sarah\u2019s like, \u2018I was on ice. I was the most dead a person could be. You can see my frozen body.\u2019 I was like, \u2018Yeah, but what if?\u2019 And she said, \u2018I am dead. I am Sarah Dead Gellar.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter Deadline reported the sequel was in the works<\/a> in 2023, Gellar issued the same response about her potential return. \u201cI am dead<\/a>,\u201d she told People.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMy best friend [Jennifer Kaytin Robinson] is directing it, so we joke that I have an unofficial job, which is I am continuity,\u201d added Gellar. \u201cSo I\u2019m always the one telling her, \u2018Well, that would happen, or that wouldn\u2019t happen with those characters,\u2019 so I do have kind of an unofficial job title.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAlthough Gellar will not return for the long-awaited update, she teased a photo<\/a> from the set in November, where she joined close friend Robinson, as well as husband Freddie Prinze Jr.<\/a>, who reprises his role<\/a> as Ray Bronson. She later admitted the photo got her \u201cin a little bit of trouble.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn addition to a quick glimpse of Gellar\u2019s Helen in a framed photo on her grave, the first trailer<\/a> for the movie that dropped Tuesday features the return of Prinze\u2019s Ray and Jennifer Love Hewitt<\/a>\u2018s final girl Julie James. The preview also reveals a first look at Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon, Billy Campbell, Gabbriette Bechtel, Austin Nichols, Lola Tung and Nicholas Alexander Chavez.<\/p>\n
