{"id":457149,"date":"2025-09-28T05:43:10","date_gmt":"2025-09-28T05:43:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/457149\/"},"modified":"2025-09-28T05:43:10","modified_gmt":"2025-09-28T05:43:10","slug":"hong-kongs-global-standing-vital-to-countrys-development-michael-kadoorie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/457149\/","title":{"rendered":"Hong Kong\u2019s global standing vital to country\u2019s development: Michael Kadoorie"},"content":{"rendered":"<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Hong Kong may lack natural resources such as gold and oil, but its international standing remains valuable to mainland China, tycoon Michael Kadoorie has said, while also encouraging younger residents to view the city\u2019s situation as a glass half full rather than half empty.<\/p>\n<p>In a 20-minute TV interview aired on Saturday, the chairman of electricity supplier <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/topics\/clp-group?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"noopener\">CLP Holdings<\/a> and Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels (HSH), which owns and runs the luxury Peninsula group of properties, weighed in on issues that the city, his family and younger Hongkongers face.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Kadoorie told Trade Development Council chairman Frederick Ma Si-hang on the latter\u2019s talk show, The Spirit of the Lion Rock Fred Ma, that Hong Kong was not without its problems but described the city as ever-changing, expressing confidence in its ability to bounce back stronger and higher.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Asked about his view on Hong Kong\u2019s future, 83-year-old Kadoorie said: \u201cWe have no oil, we have no gold, so it\u2019s the work that goes on here, that makes Hong Kong an international city, which is of value to the mainland.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cIf we can do that, and maintain that, then we are doing the right thing.
