Melbourne Cup favourite <strong>Sir Delius<\/strong> has started his preparation excellently, winning the Group 1 SEN Underwood Stakes (1800m) and running second in the Group 2 Chelmsford (1600m).<\/p>\n<p>But the <strong>Gai Waterhouse<\/strong> trained import may not even be at his peak fitness yet.<\/p>\n<p>Expert yard analyst <strong>Nick Noonan<\/strong> observed Sir Delius in the mounting yard prior to his SEN Underwood Stakes victory and came to an exciting conclusion.<\/p>\n<p>The equal Melbourne Cup favourite still has plenty of improvement to come this preparation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sen.com.au\/tips\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/SSxTrack_Article_banner2.jpg\" alt=\"SSxTrack Article banner2\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe key runner from the last couple weeks of racing was Sir Delius,\u201d Noonan told SENTrack and RSN\u2019s Lay Back with Betfair.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe looks like a horse that\u2019s still got at least two or three lengths of improvement, from a yard point of view.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGai usually has them pretty cranked up, but I think she\u2019s definitely left something in the tank there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHim and <strong>Buckaroo<\/strong>, they look the same, they\u2019re just gonna peak \u2013 Buckaroo in the Caulfield Cup and Sir Delius in the Cox Plate or Melbourne Cup.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Even after winning the SEN Underwood Stakes, Noonan admitted that Sir Delius was extremely classy and intelligent when returning to his stable following the victory.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSir Delius over the last few weeks, I loved him as a type,\u201d Noonan said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe looks like a very intelligent horse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven seeing him after the Underwood, he was having a good look around at things.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s got a lot of class about him, and I think he\u2019s got at least two or three lengths to come, which is probably what he needs to do to win a Cox Plate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe definitely can improve.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a
