Chelsea<\/a> are starting to count their absentees before hosting Liverpool on Saturday after a red card compounded their woes in a 3-1 defeat to Brighton<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Enzo Maresca\u2019s side hosted Brighton<\/a> on Saturday and took the lead via Enzo Fernandez in the first half, but a dramatic finish would see all three points leave with the south coast side.<\/p>\n

Substitutes Danny Welbeck and Maxim de Cuyper scored during the 11 minutes of stoppage time against a Chelsea<\/a> side who went down to 10 men in the 53rd minute.<\/p>\n

Trevoh Chalobah<\/strong> was the player shown the red card after a challenge on Georginio Rutter denied a goal scoring opportunity, with VAR intervening to see the centre-back earn a one-match suspension.<\/p>\n

The defender, who has started every league game for Chelsea<\/a> so far this season, will, therefore, not be available to face Liverpool on Saturday.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

It leaves Chelsea<\/a> with likely only three senior central defenders available, with Levi Colwill and Tosin Adarabioyo ruled out, while Wesley Fofana will be touch-and-go after a concussion.<\/p>\n

Arne Slot<\/a> will, therefore, prepare to face two of Jorrel Hato, Josh Acheampong and Benoit Badiashile at the back next weekend. Hugo Ekitike<\/a> will be available after a suspension of his own.<\/p>\n

Chalobah\u2019s suspension comes days after Maresca revealed Cole Palmer has been rested until the international break due to a persistent groin injury, which they hope will see him avoid surgery.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe decided to rest him for two-three weeks until the international break to see if with that rest he can recover 100% and to be fit after the international break,\u201d Maresca told reporters.<\/p>\n
