{"id":460418,"date":"2025-09-29T12:37:11","date_gmt":"2025-09-29T12:37:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/460418\/"},"modified":"2025-09-29T12:37:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-29T12:37:11","slug":"stock-market-today-live-updates-78","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/460418\/","title":{"rendered":"Stock market today: Live updates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A trader works on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange on Aug. 4, 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Source: NYSE<\/p>\n<p>Stock futures rose on Monday as Wall Street tried to regain its footing after a week in which the artificial intelligence trade lost some steam.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@DJ.1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average<\/a> popped 171 points, or 0.4%. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@SP.1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">S&amp;P 500<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@ND.1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nasdaq-100 futures<\/a> climbed 0.5% and 0.6%, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>AI-related stocks <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/ORCL\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oracle<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/NVDA\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nvidia<\/a> rose after skepticism around the artificial intelligence trade put pressure on the broader stock market. Some traders even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/09\/23\/nvidia-openai-data-center-ai-power-renewable-gas-nuclear.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">questioned whether there was enough energy <\/a>to power an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/09\/22\/nvidia-openai-data-center.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">infrastructure plan between Nvidia and OpenAI<\/a>. Nvidia rose around 1% in the premarket, while Oracle was higher by 0.8%.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, shares of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/EA\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Electronic Arts<\/a> were halted after the video game company announced that it&#8217;s going to be <a href=\"#108204977-QgyZkNNs0\">taken private in a $55 billion deal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. stocks slipped last week as cracks appeared in a key pillar of the bull market rally \u2014 enthusiasm surrounding artificial intelligence buildout. The S&amp;P 500 saw its worst weekly performance since Aug. 1, and now sits 0.8% off its record high. The Nasdaq recorded its weakest week since early August, and the Dow posted first loss in three weeks.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The\u00a0narrative shifted modestly last week in a negative direction\u00a0as investors\u00a0questioned two key assumptions\u00a0underpinning the rally: the\u00a0sustainability of the AI infrastructure boom\u00a0and the\u00a0inevitability of an aggressive Fed easing cycle,&#8221; Adam Crisafulli, founder of Vital Knowledge, said in a note.<\/p>\n<p>All eyes are turning to the September nonfarm payrolls report, which is due Friday morning. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/09\/26\/wall-street-will-need-another-goldilocks-number-out-of-next-weeks-jobs-report-with-stocks-vulnerable-.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wall Street may need another &#8220;goldilocks&#8221; number<\/a>\u00a0to keep the bull market going \u2014 not too hot as to turn policymakers hawkish and not too cold to indicate a major slowdown.<\/p>\n<p>Those on Wall Street are watching for a possible shutdown of the federal government as this week&#8217;s funding deadline looms. Over the weekend, President Donald Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/09\/28\/trump-mass-firings-government-shutdown.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told NBC News<\/a> that mass firings of federal workers could take place if a shutdown is not averted by Congress.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are going to cut a lot of the people that &#8230; we&#8217;re able to cut on a permanent basis,&#8221; he said, adding that he&#8217;d &#8220;rather not do that.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The market is still poised for modest gains for the month of September. The S&amp;P 500 is up 2.8% this month, while the Dow has gained 1.5%.
