Andy Burnham<\/a> said he would have to be \u2018wrenched\u2019 out of Manchester<\/a> as he was grilled over his rumoured leadership bid hopes.<\/p>\n The Greater Manchester mayor was quizzed over speculation that he might launch a leadership bid to become the Prime Minister, the controversial digital ID rollout<\/a>, and the rise of Reform. <\/p>\n Answering questions at the Guardian Politics podcast live at the Labour Party conference in Liverpool, Mr Burnham said being the mayor is the \u2018best job in politics.\u2019 <\/p>\n He said: \u2018I can\u2019t launch a leadership campaign, I\u2019m not in Parliament \u2013 that is the bottom line. <\/p>\n \u2018The thing that I\u2019m doing is putting forward ideas that in any scenario \u2013 whoever is the leader \u2013 I think Labour needs to take on board. I\u2019m of course talking about the General Election.\u2019<\/p>\n But he left the door open for a possible future leadership bid by refusing to rule out leaving the mayoral term before its end, despite saying \u2018you would have to wrench\u2019 him out of Greater Manchester. <\/p>\n \t\t When asked whether he supports the digital ID, he said \u2018not now.\u2019 <\/p>\n He insisted that the government inherited a \u2018difficult\u2019 situation, and that it has done \u2018good things\u2019 like bringing rail companies back into public ownership. <\/p>\n \u2018They renationalised rail, and I applaud them, that\u2019s a really good thing to do, but go the next step and start to reduce rail fares.
