There’s few city centre locations that offer unrivalled views of Manchester’s most famed and historic landmarks.<\/p>\n

From the Town Hall and Great Northern, to Central Library and Manchester Central<\/a>, each and every one can be seen in all that glory – as well as the number of new developments taking shape – from the city’s brand new glamorous drinking and dining spot ten floors up.<\/p>\n

Sitting atop Gary Neville’s \u00a3400m No.1 St Michael’s development in Jackson’s Row, internationally renowned restaurant Chotto Matte is almost ready to open its doors – bringing its globally renowned Nikkei cuisine, electric atmosphere, and immersive dining concept to the North of England for the first time.<\/p>\n

Following an extensive fit-out, Chotto Matte Manchester spans 20,000 sq ft across the 10th floor and is perched high above the city-centre, with the new location promising Japanese and Peruvian flavours, dramatic graffiti-inspired interiors, contemporary art installations and live music – set against the backdrop of Manchester\u2019s skyline.<\/p>\n

The Manchester launch represents a significant milestone for Chotto Matte as it expands its footprint into the North of England for the first time with its largest site globally.<\/p>\n

Chotto Matte currently operates in London, Toronto, San Francisco, Doha, and Riyadh with additional sites set to open in Georgia and Dubai in 2026, as part of the group\u2019s continued global expansion.<\/p>\n

Menus has been crafted by Group Executive Chef, Jordan Sclare, alongside Founder, Kurt Zdesar and showcases Chotto Matte\u2019s signature style – Nikkei cuisine; which blends Japanese precision with bold Peruvian flavours.<\/p>\n

Guests can expect dishes from five distinct cooking sections – sushi bar, tempura, robata, saut\u00e9 and pastry – each representing a part of the Nikkei journey.<\/p>\n

Signature dishes include Yellowtail \u2018Nikkei\u2019 Sashimi, a selection of raw fish prepared with Peruvian zest, Seabass Ceviche, Nikkei Gyoza, Sato Maki Roll and the iconic Black Cod Aji Miso.<\/p>\n

The menu also has an extensive robata offering featuring serves such as Pollo Peruano, a Whole Baby Chicken with coriander, canchas and pomegranate alongside a Asado De Tira – a slow-cooked braised beef short rib on the bone with purple potato puree, teriyaki jus and chives.<\/p>\n

Desserts take centre stage though, with an in-house pastry team, offering up indulgent creations such as a Baked Japanese Cheesecake, Salted Caramel Fondant and the signature Warm Cinnamon Churros.<\/p>\n

Drinks wise, there’s a nod to the fusion element of the restaurant with a selection of Suntory Classics – bold, refined and crafted using the finest Japanese Spirits.<\/p>\n

Drinks such as the Roku Aviation and Penicillin Harmony sit alongside the Chotto Icons including Pisco Sour, Yuzu Martini and Kakigori, plus Highballs, On the Rocks, and For the Curious – the latter billed as ‘not your usual pours’, but ‘where flavour meets curiosity’.<\/p>\n

There’s also a wide range of sparkling options, premium wines, Champagnes, and of course, Japanese delicacy, sake.<\/p>\n

For the design of the space, no expense has been spared. The restaurant group has worked with an array of local artists, including female contemporary artist Carla Raads, who was commissioned to transform the bathrooms – an iconic photo location across all Chotto Matte restaurants into a striking UV mural.<\/p>\n

Her work, centred on anthesis – the moment a flower reaches its fullest bloom has translated this fleeting botanical phenomenon into an immersive, sensory experience painted in neon acrylics in various locations throughout the venue.<\/p>\n

The standout feature of the venue though is a spectacular 348-capacity rooftop terrace, open all year round, offering guests an elevated dining experience in one of the most sought-after spaces in the city.<\/p>\n

This vibrant terrace features an extensive bar, several areas of seating as well as a stage for live entertainment.<\/p>\n

A state-of-the-art DJ booth will also feature both in the main restaurant and on the terrace with a curated schedule of local DJ\u2019s playing throughout the week.<\/p>\n

In a first for the restaurant group, a brand new concept is also launching within Chotto Matte Manchester.<\/p>\n

The outdoor terrace is split into a number of sections with some for general dining, others for private dining, and finally one for Claude’s – the brand’s new Mexican-inspired Skyview Bar with an impressive mezcal and tequila selection.<\/p>\n

Claude\u2019s Manchester will offer a vibrant atmosphere with an 82-cover dining space, a 250-strong collection of mezcals and tequilas, and a menu of Mexican nibbles.<\/p>\n

Highlights here include Black Bean Tostadas, Crispy Baja Chicken and sharing dishes such as BBQ Brioche Salmon Sliders, Wagyu Beef Birria Sliders and Grilled Chicken Quesadillas – all designed to be enjoyed sharing style over drinks.<\/p>\n

The venue will also feature two private dining rooms, one with exclusive access directly onto the rooftop, and a fully equipped meeting room. The bookable spaces have been designed to accommodate a range of configurations too.<\/p>\n

The St Michael’s scheme has been dubbed by the city’s council leader a ‘defining regeneration project for our city centre’,<\/a> with hundreds of new homes, a five-star hotel, a public square, offices and a roof-top restaurant all part of the development.<\/p>\n

Mr Neville’s company Relentless Developments, alongside high-rise specialist Salboy, is currently still developing the \u00a3400m St Michael’s scheme off Deansgate<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Recent openings at the landmark development include beautiful Italian restaurant Circolo Popolare<\/a>, from France-based Italian restaurant group Big Mamma group, and Grind, a trendy coffee shop and cocktail bar<\/a> that also made the move up to Manchester having established itself in the capital.<\/p>\n

Chotto Matte is set to launch its latest site in Manchester on Friday, 10 October 2025.
