Another Stockport bar is preparing to bid farewell to the town centre, it has been confirmed.<\/p>\n

In a post shared online earlier today, the team behind M\u00f86b, a mix of record store, cafe and bar, situated on Petersgate, confirmed they would be calling it a day.<\/p>\n

The venue was opened by designer and DJ Andrew Lyster in the town in autumn 2023 as a space that worked as a cafe by day and late-night bar spinning records by night.<\/p>\n

It comes just days after Stockport bar, Bohemian Arts Club<\/a>, opened by Blossoms frontman Tom Ogden and his wife Katie, announced it would be closing too.<\/p>\n

The full post confirming the closure read: “For those that don’t already know, we’ve decided to close M\u00f86b.<\/p>\n

“To everyone who’s frequented the bar, all I can say is a heartfelt thanks. I’m so grateful to all those who’ve come and shared the experiences, to the artists who have played and to the chefs who have cooked on the terrace.<\/p>\n

“I’ve been speaking to people about closing and it’s been overwhelming to hear the nice things said about M\u00f86b and what it means to them.<\/p>\n

“The most common bit of feedback I’ve had is how people have felt so welcome and at home, and that’s down to Rich + Kim who I can’t thank enough (shoutout to Sabina too).<\/p>\n

“Thanks to everyone who’s been so supportive, it’ll continue in some shape or form in the future…<\/p>\n

“Actual closing date is Saturday 15 November, lots of nice things happening before then (including our second birthday!)”<\/p>\n

A number of supportive messages flooded the post as many shared their sadness at the loss of the venue.<\/p>\n

One shared: “Been amazing to have the best bar in Europe right here in Stockport<\/a>. Best of times. Best of luck to all with future endeavours.”<\/p>\n

Another added: “Ah this is incredibly sad news. Easily one of our favourite bars worldwide.”<\/p>\n

And a third commented: “Home away from home. Thank you for all the memories and changing the Stockport scene.”<\/p>\n

Closely affiliated with founder Andrew’s music label Youth, the multi-functional space was very much music-led but is designed to be a spot for everyone<\/a> with excellent cocktails and a regularly changing bar snack menu.<\/p>\n

Inspired by European bars he had visited like Fischio, a kiosk bar in the middle of a busy roundabout in Rome where they play records, Andrew also invited its owners over to DJ at M\u00f86b.<\/p>\n

He also counted the Salon des Amateurs in Dusseldorf – a trailblazing club – and Toast Bar in Hamburg, as sources of inspiration for the trendy Stockport drinking spot.<\/p>\n

Speaking about opening the venture in October 2023, Andrew said: “I\u2019ve always loved the idea of being in Stockport as I\u2019m from here, and being part of this regeneration.<\/p>\n

“Being away from Underbanks is better for music in a way though because there\u2019s fewer sound restrictions, and that was important to me because the bar is meant to centre around music.<\/p>\n
