Alderwoman Dame Susan Langley DBE has today been elected as the 697th Lord Mayor of London, succeeding Alderman Alastair King.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Dame Susan becomes the third woman in the City of London Corporation\u2019s history to hold the office \u2013 and the first to use the title, Lady Mayor.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

As the elected head of the City of London Corporation, she will formally take office on Friday 7th of November at the Silent Ceremony, with the Lady Mayor\u2019s Banquet being held later this year.<\/p>\n

Serving as a global\u00a0ambassador for the UK\u2019s financial and professional services sector, Lady Mayor Elect Langley will work with business leaders and government representatives both here and overseas to strengthen global business ties and promote opportunities for UK growth.\u00a0 Acting as an international spokeswoman for the City, she will seek to promote the U.K. as an attractive destination for investment.\u00a0<\/p>\n

She has pledged to champion a \u2018Modern Mayoralty\u2019 – a long-term, strategic approach designed to ensure the role remains relevant, resilient, and aligned with government and industry to maximise its effectiveness.\u00a0 This will deliver greater continuity across mayoral terms with the focus on\u00a0<\/p>\n
