Northern Ireland is a \u201cperfect testbed for innovation\u201d an event at the 2025 Labour Party Conference has been told.<\/p>\n

Members of the NI Chamber and Queen\u2019s University addressed Labour party members in Liverpool\u2019s ACC.<\/p>\n

And it came on a day when Chancellor Rachel Reeves said she is facing \u201charsh global headwinds\u201d as she hinted at further tax rises to come in her November 26 Budget.<\/p>\n

She used her conference speech to insist that she would keep control of the public finances and would \u201cnot take risks with the trust placed in us by the British people\u201d.<\/p>\n

But she acknowledged that her choices had been made \u201charder\u201d by international events and the \u201clong-term damage\u201d done to the economy.<\/p>\n

At the same time, NI Chamber chief executive Suzanne Wylie said \u201cThis government has said that growth is its number one ambition, and in the past year, Northern Ireland has outperformed the UK.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a region, we are the ideal place for testing new ideas. Whether that is in advanced manufacturing or AI, we are big enough to demonstrate impact, but small enough to get things done quickly. <\/p>\n

\u201cBut there is so much more that government can do, from easing red tape to ensuring our voice is heard in the delivery of the Industrial Strategy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr Ryan Feeney, vice-president and registrar at Queen\u2019s added: \u201cThis event recognises the strength of a \u2018triple-helix\u2019 approach between higher education, business, and policy makers when it comes to maximising our economic impact on a UK-wide basis.<\/p>\n

\u201cBringing business and industry together, and combining Queen\u2019s world-class research and innovation, with NI Chamber\u2019s significant policy influence, seeks to strengthen evidence-based insights and partnerships to deliver growth and prosperity for Northern Ireland and beyond.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile ahead of her keynote speech in Liverpool Ms Reeves warned that \u201cthe world has changed\u201d since she promised business chiefs she would not repeat the tax raid of her first budget.<\/p>\n
