A FRESH Cabinet Brexit row has erupted over plans to let young Europeans live and work in Britain.<\/p>\n

Chancellor Rachel Reeves<\/a> is said to be pushing for a visa deal<\/a> in a bid to reset relations with Brussels and jump-start growth.<\/p>\n

The EU<\/a> bloc has made a youth mobility scheme<\/a> a top demand ahead of a summit in London next month.<\/p>\n

Euro officials want 18 to 30-year-olds to be allowed to live, work and study in the UK for up to four years. <\/p>\n

Home Secretary Yvette Cooper<\/a> is understood to be against the plan.<\/p>\n

The Home Office<\/a> fears it would shatter public trust in Labour<\/a>\u2019s promise to reduce net migration. <\/p>\n

One insider warned: \u201cWe wouldn\u2019t accept any scheme that would not be in line with reducing net migration<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ms Reeves is eyeing a deal modelled on arrangements with Australia<\/a>, New Zealand<\/a> and Canada<\/a>. <\/p>\n

These allow young people to work in the UK for two years, with extensions in some cases.<\/p>\n

The Treasury says such a scheme could boost the economy by up to 0.45 per cent over ten years.<\/p>\n

PM Sir Keir Starmer<\/a> is expected to offer concessions on food standards, carbon taxes and fishing access in exchange for smoother trade. <\/p>\n

He meets European Commission boss Ursula von der Leyen<\/a> today in London in a bid to finalise a package ahead of the summit on May 19.<\/p>\n

No10 said: \u201cThe Prime Minister has been clear there will be no return to freedom of movement, the customs union or single market.\u201d<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s not just reckless \u2014 it\u2019s dangerous.\u201d<\/p>\n

And Shadow Business Secretary Andrew Griffith<\/a> said: \u201cLabour ministers spend more time finding ways to unpick Brexit<\/a> than make the most of its benefits.\u201d<\/p>\n
