King Charles will be joined by his closest family members on the balcony of Buckingham Palace for a flypast to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day on May 5 amid four days of celebrations<\/p>\n

The King <\/a>will be joined by his closest family on the Buckingham Palace<\/a> balcony for a spectacular flypast celebrating the 80th anniversary of VE Day<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Four days of commemorations <\/a>will mark the end of the Second World War in Europe, starting on bank holiday Monday, May 5, the palace has confirmed To start events around the country<\/a>, the Cenotaph will be dressed in Union flags while the royals will view a military procession from the famous balcony. It is where Winston Churchill appeared before the crowds on VE Day after his famous speech to mark victory in Europe in 1945.<\/p>\n

As the parade enters Horse Guards Parade the flypast by current and historic aircraft, and the world<\/a> famous Red Arrows display team will take place. Sources have confirmed that the King will be joined by the Queen and the Prince and Princess of Wales<\/a> with their three children, Prince George<\/a>, 11, Princess Charlotte, who will celebrate her tenth birthday on May 2 and Prince Louis, who will then be seven.<\/p>\n

The Princess Royal and her husband Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence will also be in attendance, alongside the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and potentially their children Lady Louise, 21 and James, Earl of Wessex, 17. Other working members of the royal family<\/a> including the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester<\/a> the Duke of Kent<\/a> if he is well enough to attend are also likely to be included.<\/p>\n

A source said: \u201cHis Majesty is dedicated to bring his family and the country together in honour of Britain\u2019s war dead and recreate the sense of community that came with the celebrations to mark VE Day. The four days of commemorations will be a fantastic opportunity for the country to unite for such a special occasion, 80 years after victory was declared in Europe.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Mirror<\/a> revealed in February how the King would lead the country in the commemorations which include a music and entertainment concert at Horse Guards Parade in London. Over four days during the early May bank holiday, thousands will come together to celebrate and remember the sacrifices of the bravest men and women in our history.<\/p>\n

Sir Keir Starmer<\/a> previously said the anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day will offer a moment for the nation to come together and \u201cdo that generation proud\u201d.<\/p>\n

Thousands up and down the country will also join in street parties during the bank holiday weekend. St Paul\u2019s Cathedral, the Houses of Parliament and Trafalgar Square will all be lit up with V-shaped beams of light each evening, recreating what happened back in 1945.<\/p>\n
