{"id":462644,"date":"2025-09-30T08:52:13","date_gmt":"2025-09-30T08:52:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/462644\/"},"modified":"2025-09-30T08:52:13","modified_gmt":"2025-09-30T08:52:13","slug":"innocent-wins-golden-heart-award-for-humanitarian-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/462644\/","title":{"rendered":"Innocent wins Golden Heart award for humanitarian work"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Innocent.jpg\" class=\"attachment-full size-full wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>The founder of <a href=\"https:\/\/allcommunityconnect.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>All Communities Connect CIC<\/strong><\/a>, which runs a food bank in Hunslet, has been awarded a Golden Heart award for his humanitarian services.<\/p>\n<p>Innocent Igiehon started distributing food to people in need during the Covid pandemic from his church and set up the social enterprise to cope with the demand. He runs a weekly food bank and warm space at Involve Community Centre every Wednesday at 12pm and another across the river in Richmond Hill.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI feel very, very excited about winning the award because it was recognition of the humanitarian services I render\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen people come to the food bank I make them welcome, give them a cup of tea and something to eat, and I talk to them about the need to remain positive. Then I give them a food parcel to take home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to thank partners and supporters including Involve who give me space to run the food bank; and Fair Share who collect surplus food from supermarkets that is close it its use by date.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Innocent is also busy in his trade union, the shopworkers union USDAW, where he sits on the regional council.<\/p>\n<p>The Golden Heart awards are organised to recognise achievements within the Nigerian community and Innocent received his award at a glittering event in Leeds last month. The evening featured cultural performances, networking sessions, and tributes to achievers in the diaspora.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the event, Festus Odunze, Chief Executive Officer of Wyte Image Media, said the awards were created to recognise Nigerians whose efforts uplift communities and inspire others.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe Golden Heart Awards is our way of shining a spotlight on trailblazers,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Photo: Innocent (right) accepting his award<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>While you\u2019re here, can we ask a favour?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">South Leeds Life is published by a not-for-profit social enterprise.
