This is an unwinnable fight for him. Long term, what he intended to do was subjugate Ukraine. It\u2019s not going to happen,\u201d Kellogg said.<\/p>\n<p>He underlined that Washington continues to view Kyiv as central to any peace process. \u201cThe Ukrainians are going to be a key part of this, because they\u2019re the only ones who make the determination on what it looks like, what a peace treaty looks like, along with the Russians,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Kellogg highlighted the resilience of the Ukrainian leadership, recalling President Volodymyr Zelenskyy\u2019s defiance at the start of the war. \u201cWe offered President Zelenskyy a ride out of town, and he said: \u2018I don\u2019t need a ride, I need ammunition.\u2019 That showed the Russians he was staying,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The envoy also pointed to NATO unity in response to the conflict. \u201cI don\u2019t think I\u2019ve ever seen the alliance this strong in my career, and I\u2019ve never seen it this united,\u201d Kellogg stressed.<\/p>\n<p>He noted Europe\u2019s growing defense cooperation with the US, citing investments in the F-35 fighter jet program. &#8220;Six European nations have invested in the F-35.
