We are now less than one month away from the release of\u00a0Guillermo del Toro\u2019s<\/strong>\u00a0Frankenstein<\/strong>, which\u00a0first comes to select theaters October 17<\/strong>, with the\u00a0Netflix premiere to follow on November 7, 2025<\/strong>. Netflix promises the brand new final trailer will release tomorrow, October 1, and in the meantime they\u2019ve released a new official poster this morning.<\/p>\n

What makes this particular poster notable is that it gives us our first real clear look at Jacob Elordi\u00a0<\/strong>(Saltburn) as Frankenstein\u2019s Monster, with this depiction of the iconic creature clearly taking more inspiration from Mary Shelley\u2019s original novel than the 1931 film adaptation.<\/p>\n

Oscar Isaac<\/strong>\u00a0(Dune) also stars as mad scientist Victor Frankenstein, with Mia Goth<\/strong>\u00a0(MaXXXine) as Elizabeth Lavenza, and\u00a0Christoph Waltz<\/strong>\u00a0(Inglourious Basterds) as Dr. Pretorius.<\/p>\n

The film follows brilliant but egotistical scientist Victor Frankenstein, who brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Meagan Navarro writes in her\u00a0review for Bloody Disgusting<\/a>, \u201cIt\u2019s the abundance of empathy that both del Toro and Elordi\u2019s soulful\u00a0performance extends\u00a0the Creature\u00a0that breathes\u00a0life into\u00a0Frankenstein.\u00a0Elordi, buried under nearly unrecognizable prosthetics and a creature design reminiscent of the marbled vampires from del Toro\u2019s\u00a0Cronos\u00a0or\u00a0Blade II, turns in a career-defining performance that transforms\u00a0Frankenstein from a dour, drawn-out retelling to a deeply affecting gothic opera.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Creature has always been pitiable and tragic, but that only grows more pronounced to a deeply poignant degree through Elordi\u2019s portrayal, much of it conveyed through the depth of emotion in his eyes,\u201d Meagan continues. \u201cAlso helping ensure that the Creature emerges as the film\u2019s ultimate figure of empathy is del Toro\u2019s choice to trim out some of the Creature\u2019s thornier story beats and mistakes.\u201d<\/p>\n
