Formula 1 drivers’ championship leader Oscar Piastri has said he is “very keen” to go racing again after his worst weekend of the season.<\/p>\n

Piastri crashed out on the first lap of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, after crashing out of qualifying a day earlier.<\/p>\n

Despite not scoring any points, his teammate and title rival, Lando Norris, was unable to fully capitalise and finished seventh.<\/p>\n

Oscar Piastri’s worst weekend of 2025 ended with a false start, then a lap one crash, but he retains a healthy championship lead after his teammate failed to capitalise.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Piastri enters this weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix with a 25-point lead over Norris, at a track where Norris was victorious last season.<\/p>\n

The grand prix in Singapore has traditionally been one of the hottest on the calendar, despite being held at night, and that heat is something McLaren hopes will be an advantage for them.<\/p>\n

“I’m very keen to get back in the cockpit,” Piastri said in the lead-up to the weekend.<\/p>\n

“On paper, and with the temperatures involved in Singapore, our car has been proven to be comfortable in the past, and with that in mind, I’m looking forward to a really positive weekend.”<\/p>\n

Piastri’s best result from his two grands prix in Singapore is third, achieved last season.<\/p>\n

While Norris is his direct rival in the battle for the championship, defending champion Max Verstappen has muscled his way back into contention.<\/p>\n

Verstappen has won the past two grands prix and is now 69 points adrift of Piastri, and 44 points behind Norris.<\/p>\n

There is a maximum of 199 points to achieve from the remaining seven grands prix and three sprint races.<\/p>\n

Overhauling a 69-point deficit is a tall order, even for Verstappen, but Red Bull’s mid-year resurgence has given the Dutchman an outside chance.<\/p>\n

After winning in dominant fashion last time out in Azerbaijan, Verstappen said he was not thinking about the championship battle and was focused on maximising each weekend.<\/p>\n

“I personally don’t think about it,” Verstappen said in Baku.<\/p>\n

“I just go race by race, what I have been doing basically the whole season \u2014 just trying to do the best we can, try to score the most points that we can.<\/p>\n

“And then after Abu Dhabi, we’ll know.”<\/p>\n
