{"id":46418,"date":"2025-04-24T10:59:08","date_gmt":"2025-04-24T10:59:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/46418\/"},"modified":"2025-04-24T10:59:08","modified_gmt":"2025-04-24T10:59:08","slug":"china-plans-to-build-nuclear-plant-on-the-moon-to-power-base-shared-with-russia-news-tech","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/46418\/","title":{"rendered":"China plans to build nuclear plant on the moon to power base shared with Russia | News Tech"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t<img fetchpriority=\"high\" width=\"646\" height=\"517\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/SEI_248599061-451e.jpg\" class=\"article-image wp-image-22962912\" alt=\"Moon in a clear night sky\" decoding=\"sync\"\/><br \/>\n\t\tChina, Russia and the US are in a new Space Race as they seek start permanent bases on the moon (Picture: Robert J Evans\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p><a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/china\/\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">China<\/a> plans to build a nuclear power plant on <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/the-moon\/\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the moon<\/a> to fuel a research station it intends to open with <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/russia\/\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Russia<\/a> there, a senior official confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>No Chinese astronaut has ever set foot on the moon \u2013 but within 10 years China aims to have a permanent lunar base on its surface.<\/p>\n<p>From there the \u2018Inernational Lunar Research Station\u2019 (ILRS), China hopes to launch manned missions to other planets.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018An important question for the ILRS is power supply\u2019, Wu Weiren, chief designer of China\u2019s lunar exploration program, said this week.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018In this Russia has a natural advantage, when it comes to nuclear power <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/plants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">plants<\/a>, especially sending them into space, it leads the world, it is ahead of the United States.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>But the USA has its own plans in motion. The only country to land people on the moon, the US hasn\u2019t sent a mission there since 1972.<\/p>\n<p>Now it wants to land two astronauts on the moon\u2019s surface in 2027, with a proposed base to follow later.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"429\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/SEI_194630925-9c0f.jpg\" class=\"article-image wp-image-22962768\" alt=\"International Lunar Research Station (Picture: China National Space Administration)\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"\/><br \/>\n\t\tA mock-up of what the International Lunar Research Station could look like on the moon(Picture: China National Space Administration)<\/p>\n<p>The USA\u2019s history in space is long, but China has made rapid progress this century.<\/p>\n<p>China\u2019s Shenzhou 5 mission in 2003 made it only the third country with that ability.<\/p>\n<p>A decade later it landed the Chang\u2019e 3 robotic rover on the moon.
