<\/p>\nSir Gary Oldman, the Oscar-winning actor, has said the Prince of Wales told him he was a fan of the television series Slow Horses as he received a knighthood at Windsor Castle on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
In the hit series, Oldman plays Jackson Lamb, a dishevelled misfit and maverick spy.<\/p>\n
The prince told the actor that every time he sees Oldman on screen as the veteran MI5 agent, \u201cI just want to give you a good wash\u201d.<\/p>\n

Oldman said he joked in reply: \u201cWell, I think I\u2019ve scrubbed up OK today.\u201d<\/p>\n
The 67-year-old actor, who won an Academy Award for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour, said receiving the knighthood was even better.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was emotional,\u201d he said. \u201cVery emotional. We spoke a minute, but I almost couldn\u2019t find my voice. I think I feel very honoured \u2014 very humbled and flattered, I think in equal measure.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt compares to nothing else. It\u2019s a singular event, that is what it is. I thought the Oscar was a big deal. No disrespect to the Academy, but it sort of pales in comparison to this. It\u2019s just been wonderful.\u201d<\/p>\n

Of his conversation with the prince, Oldman said: \u201cHe mentioned The Fifth Element and Darkest Hour.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe said he was very happy that I was here today and that it was him that had the opportunity to present me with [the honour]. A fan of Slow Horses. And he says, \u2018Every time I see you, I just want to give you a good wash.\u2019<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd I said, \u2018Well, I think I\u2019ve scrubbed up OK today.\u2019 He\u2019s a fan, yeah.\u201d<\/p>\n
Slow Horses is based on the Slough House book series by the British writer Mick Herron.<\/p>\n

After being awarded the knighthood, Oldman said it was a bonus when you worked on a film or a show and it was appreciated, adding that at Windsor Castle, people had been coming up to him saying they were waiting so they could binge-watch Slow Horses or asking if he would do another series.<\/p>\n
The actor said it was \u201ca lot of fun\u201d playing Jackson Lamb, adding: \u201cHe\u2019s got sort of an acid wit, sarcastic, he drinks too much, smokes too much, eats all the wrong things. Who wouldn\u2019t want to play that?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u2022 My day on the Slow Horses walking tour, dressed like Jackson Lamb<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n Across the Noughties and into the 2010s, he appeared in some of the Harry Potter films as Harry\u2019s godfather, Sirius Black, and said he would have given it some thought if he was asked to play Dumbledore in the new series.<\/p>\n He said he was \u201cintrigued\u201d by the new HBO television adaptation of Harry Potter, which is being filmed nearby in the Windsor Estate.<\/p>\n
