{"id":464590,"date":"2025-10-01T02:09:16","date_gmt":"2025-10-01T02:09:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/464590\/"},"modified":"2025-10-01T02:09:16","modified_gmt":"2025-10-01T02:09:16","slug":"former-local-sportscaster-shares-mental-health-journey-in-hopes-of-helping-others","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/464590\/","title":{"rendered":"Former local sportscaster shares mental health journey in hopes of helping others"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">CINCINNATI (WXIX) &#8211; Maybe it\u2019s a sign. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">A place where everything nearly ended and a new life began.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Healing takes steps.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Retracing his steps, former local sportscaster Brandon Saho goes back to the bridges spanning Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">\u201cThe bridge here that saved my life,\u201d Saho reflects.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Life is about decisions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The decision he made to save his own life would become his sign to be a bridge for others.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cIf my story saves one life, that\u2019s good enough for me because it saved my life, too,\u201d Saho admits.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid mx-auto d-block\" alt=\"Brandon Saho reflects on the many nights he walked across bridges connecting Cincinnati and...\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/3HRVPCWLAFBU3IV5T2TDDYNV4Q.png\" width=\"980\" height=\"547\" \/>Brandon Saho reflects on the many nights he walked across bridges connecting Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.(wxix)<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Saho did it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">He landed his dream job in his home city of Cincinnati.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">A big smile, big personality, he covered one of the biggest moments in Cincinnati sports, but Saho couldn\u2019t fully cover what he kept hidden behind the camera.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThat &#8211; that experience, I don\u2019t want anyone to feel,\u201d Saho explains. \u201cI mean, I remember being suicidal in my hotel room that night after I covered the AFC Championship game. That\u2019s not how it\u2019s supposed to be when you\u2019re living your dream job. It broke me and, like, no one could see those pieces of glass shattered.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Coping with alcohol and struggling with relationships, Saho felt broken.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cYou know, I\u2019ll never forget those so many \u2013 I\u2019m talking, like, hundreds of nights, walking home, crying my eyes out, listening to music at three and four in the morning, and just feeling, like, every link as I\u2019m going across the bridge,&#8221; Saho describes. \u201cYou\u2019re not supposed to talk about means and methods, that\u2019s what I\u2019ve learned, but I just want to be honest about my story, like, you know, there was the bridge, there were nights I laid down in traffic outside of the casino downtown, wrote a goodbye letter, and took pills and prayed not to wake up. You have all those moments happen, and then you finally have the courage to tell your mom and dad what\u2019s going on at 28. I think that\u2019s what was supposed to happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid mx-auto d-block\" alt=\"Brandon Saho returns to Cincinnati, where he says he spent countless nights walking this same...\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/PDQDJOQT7JFHHGR76ZATE665KU.png\" width=\"980\" height=\"547\" \/>Brandon Saho returns to Cincinnati, where he says he spent countless nights walking this same bridge, thinking about suicide.(wxix)<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">He needed professional help.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">His name tag in hand, Saho checked into the Lindner Center for Hope.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Classes, certificates, and a notebook that would be the first page in his new story.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cIt\u2019s not like mental health is fixed like that, but I learned things that I should\u2019ve been learning in school, along with math, English, science \u2013 that no one else was being taught anywhere because we were ashamed because of the stigma around mental health,&#8221; Saho says. \u201cLike, you should learn, just, you know, along with addition, subtraction, how to deal with grief, how to go through drama, what are those coping mechanisms, what are those red flags, those warning signs to look for.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">A full page, a full year, a fully changed person.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Saho fully committed to changing lives.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">He moved to Los Angeles to launch \u201cThe Mental Game\u201d podcast.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">His interviews with celebrities, athletes, and coaches opened conversations about mental health.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThe coolest thing for me is every time I speak, whether it\u2019s a basketball arena of 5,000 people or an office meeting room of 20 people, every single time at least one person, usually more, say, \u2018Hey, Brandon, I\u2019ve never told anyone this, but I\u2019ve been suicidal,\u2019 and they say, \u2018I don\u2019t know who else to tell, I don\u2019t know where to go, where to ask for help, but you gave me the courage to say something to you.\u2019 It saves lives, I see it work,\u201d Saho says.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid mx-auto d-block\" alt=\"Brandon Saho now hosts \u201cThe Mental Game\u201d podcast to talk about mental health with celebrities,...\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/AS7PM5UYVJGJHLXW7MBGHQZTMM.png\" width=\"980\" height=\"575\" \/>Brandon Saho now hosts \u201cThe Mental Game\u201d podcast to talk about mental health with celebrities, athletes, and coaches.(wxix)<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">In the spring, Saho started putting up suicide prevention signs on bridges across the country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The first sign, his sign, went up on the Purple People Bridge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">His sign on the bridge he walked on countless nights is now one of more than 500 in 40-plus states.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThe fact that somebody might be thinking about taking their own life, like I was on these bridges two, three years ago, now walks by and they can scan a QR code and can find those resources here in Ohio and Kentucky and ask for help, maybe, for the first time, it\u2019s really, really humbling, inspiring and cool,\u201d Saho describes.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid mx-auto d-block\" alt=\"Brandon Saho has helped get mental health awareness and suicide prevention signs up on more...\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/I7AD5KY5IREHXEZYNT3JJOFG3E.png\" width=\"980\" height=\"604\" \/>Brandon Saho has helped get mental health awareness and suicide prevention signs up on more than 500 bridges in the United States, including this one on the Purple People Bridge.(wxix)<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">There is help.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">There is someone who can be a bridge to better mental health.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI mean, I get the question all the time, \u2018What do you want to do, what do you want this to become?\u2019 I don\u2019t care if I have Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce or if it\u2019s just me talking, I want this to be the biggest mental health platform in the world because I want to help save lives,\u201d Saho explains.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">If you or someone you know is struggling, call or text the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">See a spelling or grammatical error in our story?
