with ministers racing to seal a US trade deal before then. <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/donald_trump\/index.html\" id=\"mol-365865b0-20f3-11f0-9a40-07bbbaef768f\" rel=\"noopener\">Donald Trump<\/a> has claimed the EU was created to &#8216;screw&#8217; alignment with key Brussels food and veterinary standards, in bid to ease friction at borders.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Unveiled by the bloc last month, it allows EU capitals to borrow cash to invest more in defence and is aimed at enabling countries to re-arm quicker.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">At present, British arms manufacturers such as BAE Systems and Babcock are locked out of participating in contracts until a pact has been struck, potentially delaying UK-EU military co-operation and the response to the <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/russia-ukraine-conflict\/index.html\" id=\"mol-6b70e950-1f97-11f0-980f-0daee4fb9b34\" class=\"class\" rel=\"noopener\">invasion of Ukraine<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\"><a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/france\/index.html\" id=\"mol-6b6c0750-1f97-11f0-980f-0daee4fb9b34\" class=\"class\" rel=\"noopener\">France<\/a>, along with a few other EU fishing nations, have been hoping to use this as leverage in post-Brexit &#8216;reset&#8217; talks to get a better deal on catching rights for EU trawlers in UK waters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">There have been reports that Sir Keir is poised to agree to continue multi-year fishing deals after the current terms expire, and say that quotas for EU boats will not be reduced.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Negotiators expect that, alongside the &#8216;reset&#8217;
