In the past day or so, the Pixel Satellite SOS settings page has accidentally appeared on older Google devices. This is a bug, with no new functionality for the Pixel 7 or 8 series.<\/p>\n

On our Pixel 7 Pro, going to Settings > Safety & emergency reveals \u201cPixel Satellite SOS\u201d alongside Emergency SOS and Car Crash Detection. Tapping reveals the same introductory page as on the Pixel 9 and newer that explains \u201cHow it works,\u201d and lets you set \u201cSharing preferences\u201d across Emergency contacts and Your Google Account. It also notes how \u201cSatellite SOS is included at no charge for 2 years.\u201d<\/p>\n

The first sign that something is amiss is the lack\u00a0of the \u201cTry a demo<\/a>\u201d button, while older phones don\u2019t have the necessary hardware (Samsung\u2019s Exynos 5300 vs. 5400 modem).<\/p>\n

Google tells us that this issue will be fixed by the end of today, and that the Pixel Satellite SOS page will automatically disappear from unsupported phones.<\/p>\n
