{"id":465807,"date":"2025-10-01T13:02:19","date_gmt":"2025-10-01T13:02:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/465807\/"},"modified":"2025-10-01T13:02:19","modified_gmt":"2025-10-01T13:02:19","slug":"new-chapter-opens-for-winners-of-irish-language-book-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/465807\/","title":{"rendered":"New chapter opens for winners of Irish language book awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A celebration of publishers and writers of Irish-medium books was held in the National Irish Language Theatre, An Taibhdhearc, Galway, on Tuesday where <a href=\"http:\/\/www.antoireachtas.ie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">An tOireachtas,<\/a> in conjunction with Foras na Gaeilge, announced the winners of the 2025 Irish Language Book of the Year Publishing Awards. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The event served as a prelude to the Oireachtas media awards in Belfast over Halloween.<\/p>\n<p>Gradam U\u00ed Sh\u00failleabh\u00e1in (Irish-Language Book of the Year for Adults), was bestowed upon B\u00f3dl\u00e9ar, a powerful and imaginative work by Darach \u00d3 Scola\u00ed, published by Leabhar Breac. Gradam R\u00e9ics Carl\u00f3 (Book of the Year for Children), shone a spotlight on \u00c9anna Corr by Antain Mac Lochlainn, also published by Leabhar Breac, a book that captures both youthful wonder and literary artistry. Gradam de Bhaldraithe (publications translated to Irish) was awarded to T\u00edr Bheag, a finely wrought translation of French novel Petit Pays by Ga\u00ebl Faye translated by Antain Mac Lochlainn, published by Barzaz.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fonacab.com\/drivers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/fonaINSTTORY.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"664\" height=\"355\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"B\u00d3DL\u00c9AR: Caibidil \u00far \u00e1 hoscailt\" height=\"800\" class=\"img-responsive center-block lazyload\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/B\u00f3dl\u00e9ar.jpg\" data-mfp-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/B\u00f3dl\u00e9ar.jpg\"\/>3<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/belfastmedia.com\/assets\/photo-camera-40e32c3bccea54b85e64dbfa709bac2178b3056679a6a0e2bb2ab4eb855b5cb4.svg\" style=\"margin-left: 5px; margin-top: -3px;\" class=\"article-gallery-icon\" alt=\"Gallery\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"article-body-caption\">B\u00d3DL\u00c9AR: Caibidil \u00far \u00e1 hoscailt<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s awards drew together 19 shortlisted works, reflecting the breadth of talent and creativity in new Irish writing today. The 2025 winners received their awards from the Oireachtas President, \u00c9amon \u00d3 Cu\u00edv who paid tribute to the depth, artistry, and vibrancy of contemporary Irish-language publishing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese awards showcase the creativity, diversity, and richness of Irish-language publishing today\u201d, said said M\u00e1ir\u00edn Nic Dhonnchadha, CEO of An tOireachtas. \u201cI congratulate Leabhar Breac and Barzaz on their remarkable achievements this year. Tonight we celebrate not only the winners, but all the authors, translators, illustrators and publishers who continue to bring passion and excitement to the creation of new Irish writing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A host of new and established Irish-language writers will be recognised at the Oireachtas na Samhna festival in Belfast, from 29 October \u2013 2 November 2025, when the winners of 2025 Oireachtas Literary Competitions will be announced.<\/p>\n<p>The Presentation Ceremony is just one of a spectacular, multidisciplinary programme of events to be held during the course of the festival &#8211; others include: the Oireachtas Media Awards, performing arts competitions, seminars, book\/CD launches, song and dance sessions, workshops, festival clubs, information sessions and so much more.
