A takeaway building which party collapsed after a car being chased by police smashed into it has been ‘made safe’ the council has said.<\/p>\n

Residents woke up to a scene of devastation on Bridge Street in Heywood<\/a> on Sunday (September 28) after a car crashed into the front of the Heywood Star eatery.<\/p>\n

Part of the building had crumbled to the ground<\/a>, following the serious crash in the early hours of the morning.<\/p>\n

Emergency services attended<\/p>\n

Greater Manchester Police<\/a> said that officers had originally been called out to a disturbance at a house in Bury<\/a>. A man left the scene in a car, and police began to pursue it.<\/p>\n

As the vehicle left Bury and drove through Heywood, it crashed into the front of the building<\/p>\n

A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, dangerous driving and threats to kill, before being taken to hospital for treatment, the force said in their last update on Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Diggers were seen clearing debris afterwards as specialists were brought in to assess the building.<\/p>\n

In an update issued today (Wednesday), Rochdale Council<\/a> said they had worked with property owners and demolition experts to ‘make it safe.’<\/p>\n

The building has now been boarded up<\/p>\n

The front could today be seen having been boarded up.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for Rochdale<\/a> Borough council, said: \u201cWe attended the site in Heywood to support the emergency services and property owners following this incident.<\/p>\n

The council say it has been ‘made safe’<\/p>\n

“We liaised with the building owners and their chosen demolition contractor to ensure that the building was made safe, and this work has now been undertaken.<\/p>\n
