A sex pest from Birmingham assaulted a teenager while working in a temporary role at a council.<\/p>\n
Paul Badley of Newcombe Road in Handsworth<\/a> was doing agency work as a housing officer at Rugby Borough Council in June 2023 and through his work he met an 18-year-old woman.<\/p>\n The victim reported he kissed her and then lifted her top up without consent, and kissed her on the chest.<\/p>\n Read more: Nightclub shooting appeal as police release picture of man<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n The woman called police shortly after he left and an investigation was launched.<\/p>\n Badley was identified as the suspect and Warwickshire<\/a> Police arrested him two days later.<\/p>\n As soon as they were made aware, the council removed him from his temporary role.<\/p>\n Get breaking news on <\/strong>BirminghamLive WhatsApp<\/strong><\/a>, click the link to join<\/strong><\/p>\n The 58-year-old was subsequently charged with two counts of sexual assault and following a four-day trial in mid-August he was found guilty, unanimously, by the jury.<\/p>\n He was jailed for two years and eight months at his sentencing hearing last Wednesday (September 24).<\/p>\n He was also given a seven-year restraining order and will be placed on the Sex Offenders\u2019 Register for life.<\/p>\n Read more: Man raped child he met on Snapchat in ‘harrowing’ case<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n Detective Constable Gemma Kirby said: \u201cThis was a hugely traumatic incident, and I\u2019d like to commend the victim for the bravery she\u2019s shown in coming forward.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s been and continues to be an incredibly challenging time.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019d also like to thank the Independent Sexual Violence Advisor from Safeline who was by the victim\u2019s side over the course of the investigation and during the court process.<\/p>\n \u201cTheir compassion, communication and commitment made a real difference \u2013 and transformed what was a traumatic experience into a much more manageable one for the victim.<\/p>\n \u201cThey not only helped make sure the victim felt heard, but that she was supported throughout and was ultimately, able to see justice done.<\/p>\n “I hope Badley\u2019s conviction will reassure other victims of sexual offences and give them the confidence to come forward knowing we will do everything we can to fully investigate.\u201d<\/p>\n
