A major Bolton road was closed in both directions after a building suddenly collapsed this afternoon.<\/p>\n

Emergency services were called to St Helens Road following reports of the incident at around 12:30pm on Wednesday (October 1).<\/p>\n

The Manchester Evening News understands that the incident was to do with demolition works taking place at a property on the busy road.<\/p>\n

Pictures from the scene show police, ambulance and fire and rescue services in attendance. No injuries have been reported.<\/p>\n

Bolton<\/a> Council says that investigations into the incident are ongoing with a building control surveyor on site.<\/p>\n

Local councillor, Ayyub Patel said: “Opposite the small Asda<\/a> on St Helens Road (BL3), a structural wall has collapsed. Emergency services including ambulances and a fire engine are currently on site.<\/p>\n

“Due to serious health and safety concerns, the road is closed in both directions. Please avoid the area and plan an alternative route until it is made safe.<\/p>\n

“Local authorities are working to secure the site. Updates will follow as the situation develops.<\/p>\n

“Stay safe and share to inform others.”<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for Bolton Council said: “The council is aware of the incident on St Helens Road surrounding two properties.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a Building Control surveyor on site and investigations are ongoing.<\/p>\n
