Sheffield United<\/a> midfielder Tom Davies \u2018showed his class\u2019 against Southampton<\/a>, says The Star<\/a> reporter Danny Hall. <\/p>\n

Sheffield United<\/a> were beaten 2-1 at home by the Saints in their latest Championship<\/a> outing on Tuesday night. Tyrese Campbell was on the scoresheet for SUFC. <\/p>\n

Davies, 27, has been with the Blades\u00a0since joining them back in 2023<\/a>. However, he has since spent a lot of time in the treatment room but is now back fit which is a boost. <\/p>\n

Journalist Hall was impressed with his most recent display and delivered his verdict, as per a report by The Star<\/a>: \u201cFrom then on there were moments when he showed his class, just appearing to have a few seconds more time than anyone else on the pitch and never panicked when under pressure as he got out of trouble so easily with a drop of the shoulder or a shift in body movement.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut there were inevitable signs of ring-rust as well and (Ross) Stewart was able to get away from both him and (Mark) McGuinness before unleashing a superb effort from 25 yards that gave (Michael) Cooper no chance. The standing ovation he got when he made way for Matos, though, was well-earned and both he and United will hope this is just the beginning.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sheffield United<\/a> return for Tom Davies<\/p>\n

Sheffield United<\/a>\u00a0snapped up Davies two years ago to boost their midfield department. When fit, he gives SUFC more competition and depth in the middle of the park.<\/p>\n

His contract at Bramall Lane expires in 2026 so they have a big decision to make regarding his long-term future. The Blades risk losing him for free in June next year.<\/p>\n

Davies has only played 26 games for Sheffield United<\/a> in all competitions to date, 16 of which came last season. He rose up through the academy at Everton and was a regular for the Toffees at various different youth levels as a youngster.<\/p>\n

The ex-England youth international went on to play 179 matches during his time at Goodison Park. He chipped in with seven goals along the way.<\/p>\n

What now for Sheffield United<\/a> and Tom Davies? <\/p>\n

Sheffield United<\/a> picked up their first win last weekend against Oxford United<\/a>. Callum O\u2019Hare got SUFC\u2019s goal against the U\u2019s at the Kassam Stadium. <\/p>\n

They weren\u2019t able to build on that result against Southampton<\/a>. The Blades will be disappointed that they didn\u2019t get anything against the Saints, especially after taking the lead. <\/p>\n

Sheffield United<\/a> were beaten by\u00a0Sunderland<\/a>\u00a0in the play-off final back in May. Wilder was subsequently sacked and replaced by ex-Reading<\/a>,\u00a0Southampton<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Hull City<\/a>\u00a0man\u00a0Ruben Selles<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Selles\u2019 tenure was a disaster though and he lost his first six matches in all competitions in charge. He was then given the chop and Wilder was re-appointed for a third time.<\/p>\n

The Blades remain bottom of the table. They are inside the drop zone with Sheffield Wednesday<\/a> and Oxford United<\/a>. <\/p>\n

They are back in action this weekend in their final outing before the international break. A trip to East Yorkshire to play Hull City<\/a> lies in store.
