The whole place was covered and even though we’ve repainted we wanted to pay homage to that so the manager at Smithdown, who’s also a photographer, came in and took photos of lots of the old interesting graffiti.

“We’re framing all the photos of how it used to look so people can spot their old graffiti, it’s not gone forever.

“They also had loads of cool band posters on the ceiling, so we’ve changed that slightly and papered it with old book pages so it’s like a grown-up Pedro’s.”

Andy, who owns Black Cat along with Chris Welsh and Rich Midgley, says the food will be familiar too. They’ve partnered with La Musa in Garston to create a pizza menu for the new venue.

“Diogo used to work at Little Furnace which is the pizza place next door to Smithdown and their pizza is amazing so we’re very happy to have him here because we think it’s just a really good match,” he adds.

The popular suntrap roof terrace is staying too with plans for a bar and DJ up there in time for next summer’s outdoor drinks season.

“Downstairs at the back there was a big bricked-up window so we’ve uncovered that and it’s brought a lot of light in so it’s made it more of a daytime place as well as nighttime.

“Smithdown is a coffee shop by day and it will be here too. We’ll be opening from 2pm so people can come in, do a bit of work, have a coffee then move on to the drinks later on.

“And, like Pedro’s was known for its margs, we’ll also be bringing our Marg Mondays, which is always very busy in our other two sites, to Parr Street.”

With a resident DJ from S**t Indie Disco on Fridays, quiz on Tuesdays and live sport on a big screen, Andy says they’ve got plenty planned for Black Cat three.

“We’ve had Smithdown since 2017, we opened Rose Lane last May, and we were already looking at opening a third place but we were thinking of staying with suburban. We didn’t really have any aspirations to do anything in the city centre until this came up and we thought we’d give it a go.

“There’s a great craft and cask scene down that end of Slater Street now with the likes of St Peter’s Tavern, The Monro, and the Red Lion. Town’s a different beast to what we’re used to so it’s really exciting.”

Find out more about Black Cat here.
Find out the latest in Liverpool here.

Find out what’s good up North on our new platform, The Northern Guide.
From the best hotels, beauty spots, days out, food and more up North – visit thenorthernguide.com and follow The Northern Guide on Instagram HERE.

The owners of Black Cat bar have revealed what they’ve done to the former Crazy’s Pedro’s in Liverpool…

[8815
748,393,126,786,9144,4884,179,16,15
0":"post-468082","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-liverpool","8":"tag-britain","9":"tag-england","10":"tag-features","11":"tag-food-and-drink","12":"tag-going-out","13":"tag-great-britain","14":"tag-liverpool","15":"tag-uk","16":"tag-united-kingdom
["GET
