Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker is facing an extended spell on the sidelines after he was left out of the latest Brazil squad. Alisson<\/a> was forced off before the hour mark when picking up a hamstring injury running back to make a save from Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen during the Reds’ disappointing 1-0 Champions League<\/a> reverse in Istanbul on Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n

Liverpool<\/a> boss Arne Slot<\/a> later admitted it was “99.9%” certain the 33-year-old would miss Saturday’s Premier League<\/a> visit to Chelsea.<\/p>\n

The 29million summer arrival Giorgi Mamardashvili<\/a> – who replaced Alisson from the bench in Turkey – is on standby to make his Premier League debut.<\/p>\n

Alisson will undergo scans on Thursday to ascertain the extent of the damage having had lengthy spells out in each of the last two seasons due to hamstring problems.<\/p>\n

And he has already been omitted from the Brazil squad for their forthcoming friendlies against South Korea and Japan.<\/p>\n

A serious injury to Alisson would be particularly poor timing for Liverpool given a run of testing matches after next week’s international break.<\/p>\n

They return with a home clash against bitter North West rivals Manchester United on October 19, and over the following three weeks play Aston Villa at home and travel to Brentford and Manchester City in the Premier League, are at Eintracht Frankfurt and home to Real Madrid in the Champions League and entertain FA Cup<\/a> holders Crystal Palace in the League Cup<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“When he sprinted back, he felt something,” Slot said of Alisson<\/a> after the defeat to Galatasaray.<\/p>\n

“I cannot tell you because I am not a physician but normally when a player sprints back and feels something and goes to the floor and doesn\u2019t come back to the pitch \u2013 which by the way they did 112 times being injured and coming back on the pitch without any pain \u2013 but our players don\u2019t do this.<\/p>\n

“So if one of our players is on the floor nine times out of 10 I fear the worst, and with the worst I mean he cannot continue and that is what happened with Alisson.<\/p>\n

“He will not be able to play Saturday that is 99.9% [sure], I have already said 100.”<\/p>\n
