<\/p>\nForecasters said a period of heavy rain is set to hit Northern Ireland today, before the alert for gusts of over 70mph comes into effect when Storm Amy arrives on Friday.<\/p>\n
The Met Office said the yellow warning for rain will be in place up to 10pm this evening and impacting all counties in NI.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Met Office also updated their weather warning for Storm Amy, bringing the expected time of disruption forward and extending the end time of the alert.<\/p>\n
A spokesperson warned some flooding in parts of the country could be expected on Thursday and there may be travel disruption as a result of the conditions.<\/p>\n
They added: \u201cOutbreaks of rain are likely at times on Thursday, becoming heavier and more persistent through the afternoon and early evening, before clearing to the east by Thursday night.<\/p>\n
“Accumulations of 20-30 mm are likely fairly widely, with in excess of 40 mm possible over high ground.<\/p>\n
“Given recent wet weather, this may lead to some flooding.<\/p>\n
“It will also become rather windy for a time later on Thursday afternoon and into the evening, especially in the east with gusts along the coast potentially in excess of 50 mph.\u201d<\/p>\n
It comes as an updated yellow weather warning for Storm Amy has been issued for strong winds between 2pm on Friday and noon on Saturday.<\/p>\n
The Met Office said it may lead to disruption across all six counties.<\/p>\n
\u201cStorm Amy is expected to bring a spell of strong winds to Northern Ireland during Friday and Friday night,\u201d they said previously.<\/p>\n
\u201cWesterly winds will pick up during the afternoon, peaking during the evening with gusts of 50 to 60 mph likely for many areas and could reach 60 to 70 mph for a time.<\/p>\n

“Exposed coasts and hills will see the highest gusts which could exceed 70 mph.\u201d<\/p>\n
It comes after a Met Office forecaster said windspeeds of 40mph and heavy rain is expected on Thursday before a short pause on Friday morning.<\/p>\n
Heavy rain and stronger winds will resume both inland and on the coast in the evening.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is the one that we are a little bit concerned about,\u201d the meteorologist said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt’s likely to actually develop and deepen very quickly, so likely to be associated with some strong, very strong and gusty winds.\u201d<\/p>\n
“At the moment, we’re looking at some sort of gales developing across Northern Ireland, even inland, potentially sort of severe gales around, around some of the NI coasts.
