Florian Wirtz has been backed to become a success at Liverpool despite a testing start to his Anfield<\/a> career. Wirtz briefly became the most expensive signing in Reds’ history when arriving from Bayer Leverkusen in a \u00a3116million deal earlier this month, a transfer that was later surpassed by Alexander Isak’s \u00a3125m move from Newcastle United.<\/p>\n

Despite providing an assist for fellow summer arrival Hugo Ekitike<\/a> just four minutes into his competitive debut in the Community Shield defeat to Crystal Palace, Wirtz<\/a> has yet to provide another goal contribution having made a further eight appearances.<\/p>\n

However, no Premier League<\/a> player has created more chances for his team-mates in all competitions this season than the 21 Wirtz has provided.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old played a full game for Liverpool<\/a> for the first time in the Champions League<\/a> defeat at Galatasaray on Tuesday, during which he had one good effort saved and created chances for Isak and Conor Bradley.<\/p>\n

And despite Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher<\/a> believing Wirtz should now have a spell out of the side,<\/a> Germany national team director and World Cup winner Rudi Voller is confident the attacking midfielder will soon find his feet in England.<\/p>\n

\u201cFlorian shouldn\u2019t let himself get carried away,” said Voller, speaking in German news outlet Bild.<\/a><\/p>\n

“I have no concerns about that: he\u2019ll show the English what he\u2019s made of.<\/p>\n

\u201cFlorian is playing in a new league and a new club. These are normal adjustment problems. Almost every professional has them.<\/p>\n

“I have no doubt that with his running and playing ability, he will make the breakthrough.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wirtz is expected to be called up for Germany’s forthcoming World Cup qualifiers at home to Luxembourg and away at Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n

Carragher said: “Right now, the balance of the team is not right, and the obvious one that stands out is Florian Wirtz, who is just not at the races at all.<\/p>\n

“He’s a young boy, coming to a new league, and has plenty of time to go.<\/p>\n

“But right now, he needs to come out of the team, Liverpool go back to what they were last season, and try to build some confidence and some stability. Right now it looks like a mess.”<\/p>\n
