{"id":468982,"date":"2025-10-02T17:34:11","date_gmt":"2025-10-02T17:34:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/468982\/"},"modified":"2025-10-02T17:34:11","modified_gmt":"2025-10-02T17:34:11","slug":"un-human-rights-expert-slams-eu-chemical-deregulation-push-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/468982\/","title":{"rendered":"UN human rights expert slams EU chemical deregulation push \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The aim of the bill is to create a \u201cmore predictable and less burdensome regulatory landscape\u201d \u2014 part of the EU\u2019s broader\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/ursula-von-der-leyen-blindsided-eu-brussels-deregulation-drive\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">simplification drive<\/a>\u00a0to help Europe\u2019s businesses and boost its economy.<\/p>\n<p>But the proposal &#8220;seems to conflict with [the] rights set out in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, including the rights to health and environmental protection,&#8221; Orellana writes in his letter, dated Sept. 25 and addressed to the bloc&#8217;s delegation to the U.N.<\/p>\n<p>The bill proposes, for example, that some of the rules governing what sort of cancer-causing chemicals are allowed in cosmetics be relaxed \u2014 angering consumer groups who warn it could endanger people\u2019s health.<\/p>\n<p>Orellana expresses misgivings about the &#8220;weakened safeguards preventing the use of [carcinogenic, mutagenic or reproductive toxic substances] in cosmetics,&#8221; and writes he is &#8220;particularly concerned&#8221; by new proposed flexibilities on product labeling and advertising.
