Hundreds of protesters took to Edinburgh’s Waverley station on Thursday evening.<\/p>\n

Video footage seen by Edinburgh Live showed a mass protest taking place in the station at around 6.40pm on Thursday, October 2, with crowds seen holding Palestinian flags.<\/p>\n

In the footage, the massive crowd can be seen pushing against the barrier as police and station staff fight to keep the cordon in place.<\/p>\n

Further footage show that the protest had made it inside the station, while chants of “free, free, Palestine” could be heard.<\/p>\n

A passenger on a train leaving the station told Edinburgh Live: “As I walked to my platform there was just this wall of noise and as you turned there corner there were hundreds of protestors.<\/p>\n

“A few managed to sneak past the police and get into the station and then more and more pushed to get past, some were restrained by police. Eventually they just let everyone through to huge cheers from the protesters.<\/p>\n

“They\u2019re now right in the middle of the station with loads of flags, all joining in chants together.”<\/p>\n

It comes after British Transport Police (BTP) issued a warning ahead of a number of planned protests across the UK.<\/p>\n

Officers were made aware of information on social media suggesting protestors may be looking to target the railway network in response to Israel detaining activists on the Global Sumud Flotilla in the early hours of this morning.<\/p>\n

A BTP spokesperson said: “We\u2019re aware of a small number of protests currently taking place at stations across the network including Edinburgh Waverley.<\/p>\n

“Officers will remain highly visible throughout the evening working to keep the railway moving, and we reiterate our warning to protestors not to go on the tracks.\u201d<\/p>\n
