{"id":469589,"date":"2025-10-02T22:58:11","date_gmt":"2025-10-02T22:58:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/469589\/"},"modified":"2025-10-02T22:58:11","modified_gmt":"2025-10-02T22:58:11","slug":"sounds-like-sony-may-finally-be-starting-to-wind-down-ps4-support","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/469589\/","title":{"rendered":"Sounds Like Sony May Finally Be Starting to Wind Down PS4 Support"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"scanlines\" title=\"Sounds Like Sony May Finally Be Starting to Wind Down PS4 Support 1\" href=\"https:\/\/images.pushsquare.com\/889a8236b4411\/sounds-like-sony-may-finally-be-starting-to-wind-down-ps4-support-1.large.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/sounds-like-sony-may-finally-be-starting-to-wind-down-ps4-support-1.900x.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"507\" alt=\"Sounds Like Sony May Finally Be Starting to Wind Down PS4 Support 1\"\/><\/a>Image: Push Square<\/p>\n<p>The PS5 has been around for nearly five years now, and throughout that time, the PS4 has still been a big part of the wider gaming landscape.<\/p>\n<p>With an enormous install base and more accessible price point, Sony&#8217;s last-gen console has lived a much longer lifespan than most other machines, with many modern games still releasing for it.<\/p>\n<p>Well, it seems as though Sony might finally be taking steps to wind down support for PS4.<\/p>\n<p>According to a new report from <a class=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/insider-gaming.com\/playstation-is-sunsetting-some-playstation-4-services\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Insider Gaming<\/a>, Sony is planning to sunset some legacy services related to the console early next year.<\/p>\n<p>Citing documentation sent to the outlet, Insider Gaming says the following PS4 services are on the chopping block for all games submitted for release after Spring 2026:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Activity Feed Web API<\/li>\n<li>Title Small Storage (TSS)<\/li>\n<li>Title User Storage (TUS)<\/li>\n<li>Users and Profiles<\/li>\n<li>Word Filters<\/li>\n<li>Shared Media Web API<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These features &#8220;are designed to provide a more unified and scalable foundation across console generations&#8221;, reads the report.<\/p>\n<p>It all points to Sony beginning to phase out the platform as it hopes to migrate remaining PS4 users onto PS5.<\/p>\n<p>This and the previous generation have been running much closer together than previously. Despite PS5 selling very well, and being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pushsquare.com\/news\/2025\/09\/ps5-is-the-most-successful-console-in-playstation-history-states-sony\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PlayStation&#8217;s most successful generation overall<\/a>, the PS4 has been seeing a healthy amount of activity thanks to frequent cross-gen software releases.<\/p>\n<p>We expect that this trend will continue when the PS6 rolls around in a couple of years or so; the new console will be the focus, with many titles also releasing on PS5.<\/p>\n<p>Are you still rocking your PS4 in 2025?
