Thousands of families in Greater Manchester are set to get \u00a315 payments during the May half-term to help prevent ‘holiday hunger’.<\/p>\n
Every child in Oldham<\/a> who qualifies for free school meals is eligible for the one off payment, with schools automatically sending out the money to families in the last week of May.<\/p>\n Families will receive a \u00a315 payment for each child or young person eligible for the extra financial help as part of the government’s Household Support Fund.<\/p>\n This fund is predicted to help around 21,000 children in Oldham who qualify for free school meals.<\/p>\n Oldham council will also be giving out \u00a360 per eligible child or young person for the Summer holidays and \u00a340 for the Christmas<\/a> holidays in a plea to reduce hunger amongst children who would normal get free meals when at school.<\/p>\n It comes after free breakfast clubs<\/a> were introduced across the country in 750 primary school on April 21 , offering 30 minutes of free childcare a day as well as free food and drink to pupils.<\/p>\n The government started the Household Support Fund in October 2021 to help households struggling with the cost of living, in particular with things like food and energy.<\/p>\n It is managed by local councils who decide how to distribute the funding based on individual circumstances and needs.<\/p>\n The fund has been extended several times.
